Which spelling do you like better? Baby boy will be here any day now and we need to decide on how to spell his name! Colin is the traditional spelling but DH may like the double L. I'm not sure. The middle name will be Patrick if it matters.

Colin reminds me of a first name and Collin a last name. Not sure if that makes any difference though, haha. It's a great name and I think I lean slightly toward Colin.

Colin. The double L seems more like a last name to me? I dunno why, it just does.

For some reason Colin makes me think of the word colon. I've met more kids with the 2 l spelling, but maybe you should just draw out of a hat or something

Colin reads like colon to me for some reason, like a bowel. I like collin better.

I think adding the second L will open him up to a lifetime of correcting the spelling! I have never seen it spelled with two! I do love the name though; congrats!

As a physician I struggle with the name Colin. Collin is a little better, but I agree with the lifetime of correcting people.

My nephews name is Collin and he still gets Colin a lot...like as in pronounced Colon--the body part.

I've never heard of Colin being pronounced "colon" - what a bummer! (Heh) I like the one L spelling.

The name, truthfully, is not my favorite but if I had to choose I'd pick one L.

@loveisstrange: I know what you what mean...Collins
Voted for 1 L

@JoyfulKiwi: I thought the same thing (made me think of colon). I actually like both spellings, but have only ever met "Collin"s.

Guys, her baby will be here any day now and they've decided on the name. I don't see how saying "Reminds me of colon" is helpful. It's a pretty traditional Irish name and I hear it a lot where I live, not once has it been pronounced like Colon.
I prefer the one L!

I really like this name. I think that Colin looks better.
Maybe you'll have to flip a coin if you can't decide??

@NovBaby1112: I agree with you, no need to give more opinion than she asked...just the spelling, not whether or not we like the name.
I've never seen the name spelled out that I can think of, but I think I'd go with one L.

I know one of each- and think they're both adorable. But I prefer Colin. I'm a big fan of traditional spellings.

Love the name! I've only ever seen it spelled with one 'L' so that would be my preference!

One L, love the name! (FWIW I've never associated it with colon, or heard it mispronounced as such.)

As a first name I've only seen it spelled Colin! And the pronunciation sounds nothing like colon to me, maybe it's a regional thing!

We spelled it with one L for our colin. I just didn't think the extra L served any purpose. We do occasionally have ppl misspell it with two L's but what are you gonna do... Most famous Colins spell with one L and the social security list is far more popular with one l than 2, which led us to pick the "correct" single L spelling.

One L! I agree two Ls is a last name. My DH is Colin and it drives him crazy when people ask if it is two Ls. I Also appreciate sticking with common spellings.

I love the name with one L- my first was almost a Colin, it was one of our top 3! My newest nephew is a Colin and he is the happiest baby I've ever met, so it has a very positive association in my mind!
@NovBaby1112: Thank you!

@Phillybaby2013: this name is on our list and I really prefer the one l spelling!

Love the name! I definitely prefer Colin; I've never seen someone spell it with 2 l's.

Thanks to everyone for voting and your feedback! I think I'm leaning towards the traditional 1 L. I love the name and already love hearing LO1 say it when we talk about baby brother.
