This is horrible. In terms of sending J to school know and take comfort in the fact that schools regularly conduct lockdown drills to practice for this sort of thing. Terrible, I know, but it's what we have to do now.

@babyjmama: And though I'm sure those are rhetorical questions, I think that all any of us can do is be involved in our kid's lives. Teach them to not bully. Tell them they can come to us for help if they're the ones being bullied, and work hard to help them with it. Not keep guns where our children have access to them. Get them help if they're going through depression, anxiety, anger problems. Be aware enough about what's going on in your own house that you would know it if your kid was building bombs in your garage or basement or hiding assault weapons in their room.
It's depressing to have to worry about...but as you said, unfortunately it's the world we live in. Bullying keeps getting worse, weapons keep getting more advanced, and mental disorders are stigmatized so that often people don't end up getting help when they need it.
