We've always had white lights, but now that we have kids, I'm thinking we should do colored lights. I think they'll like them better.

Coloured, but with white ones wrapped around the trunk-gives it a gorgeous depth and glow!

I personally like white lights as well, but we have colored lights because of the kids.

See, I've been firmly in the white category all my adult life, but I'm starting to think that coloured lights are becoming cool again? It's like the first time I saw skinny jeans, I thought it was the worst idea ever. And now I wear them.

I like white. But I'll take either, as long as they're not LED! The new LED lights are way too bright!

@Mrs. Superhero: i feel the same way! i've seen colored lights everywhere and they look great!

We always had coloured lights as a kid, so even though I agree that white lights look more classy, it doesn't feel like Christmas without the coloured lights.

White with colored ornaments. We've decided we'll buy some tiny artificial trees for each child though, that they can keep in their bedroom and decorate as they wish!

So I begged DH to get rid of colored for good last year. I gave him a thesis on why white was better. He came back with the childhood nostalgia defense. Well today we put white lights on and LO barely acknowledged them but when the colored went up (over the white, yikes) she immediately was drawn to the tree, started naming the colors and counting them. So the colored stays for LOs enjoyment. Out tree is not 'cool' anymore but it is loved and familiar.

we have colored lights for the kids too. My son loves the bright colors!

I prefer white lights, DH prefers colored. We have colored lights on our tree right now, so that's how I voted.

We have white lights! But its pre-lit so we don't have a choice

We always had colored throughout my childhood, so we stick with colored because it just feels more like Christmas to me.

we always had a crazy family tree with colored lights until i was in high school and my mom suddenly thought she was martha stewart. she started using insane amounts of ribbon, all matching ornaments, and strictly white lights. it was sad! now that i have my own tree, i'm adament about using the colored lights of my childhood (even though hubs hates them)! outside, though, we stick with the white lights.

We alternate years. DH likes colored lights and I like white so alternating is a good compromise for us.

My mom is a little crazy about her Christmas tree (1,100 ornaments that must ALL be affixed by her alone as she is the only one who does it "right") and beat it into me that colored lights are bad, white lights are good. Sooo we use white.
I think when Emma's older though we'll get colored lights and I'll let her have fun with the tree. I literally wasn't allowed to touch ours as a kid which was pretty lame.

I like them both equally! White seems more classy and color looks so fun.

I like the lights to coordinate with the tree. Our old decorations were blue and silver, so we had blue and white lights. Now we went with red white and silver, so we have red and white lights.

I like white lights. Plus our tree is prelit so I'm not switching anytime soon

I prefer white because I think it looks classier, but hubs likes colored so I gave in to him.
