I have a colposcopy on Thursday. I know that some women experience pain and cramps. Just curious what others' experiences were. Thanks!

I remember being crampy and uncomfortable the first day. A good meal, Advil and some rest helped a ton.

My first one was a few years ago and it was uncomfortable. I suggest taking some pain meds before you go.

I took a couple Advil before my appointment.
ETA: I was fairly crampy the rest of the day but no worse than mild period cramps. The actual procedure itself hurt a but, like bad period cramps, but it was over super fast.

I've had two - the first one, I took two advil before going in and it was fine. Uncomfortable, but not too bad. I had another one about 10 years later and didn't even think about taking an advil; it was much, MUCH more uncomfortable that time. I definitely recommend an advil or two before having it done.

No, the colposcopy wasn't painful for me, just a weird feeling. Good luck!

I didn't take anything before the three (blaaaah) that I had. The colposcopy itself isn't what hurts, if they do a biopsy, THAT's what you'll feel... I also had three of those (punch biopsies) and those...pinch a little. I wouldn't say it's unbearable or anything, but you'll feel it!

I've had three or four and never taken pain meds. For me it didn't feel much different than a regular Pap.

I've had several in recent years. I have not found them to be painful and have never been told to take pain meds beforehand.

I just took some Advil before hand. I don't remember having that much pain after, but if anything I just took more Advil.
Just make you wear a pantyline or pad after for spotting. Also note you can pass a huge blood clot and it is normal. No one told me that and I freaked out when I did.

@ms.janedoe: omg, yes. Colposcopy, not a bug deal- biopsy, definitely not fun.
@MusicaV: I'll agree with all the pps- take Advil before hand and wear a panty liner. I had very very mild cramping the rest of the day.
