Hi Ladies! I wanted to see if there were some success stories of conceiving while still breastfeeding. I am in the process of weaning my daughter, as she only nurses at night before bed. Would any of you care to share your stories, whether you had success or not, if it took longer than the first, etc. Thanks! This is our first month ttc #2

I had to completely wean. Got pregnant the next cycle, but it was a CP.

I think you know my story. I waited 6 cycles then weaned my son. It was a very gradual process which helped. I posted a thread similar to yours and a lot of women have had success though. In my case age and other potential issues were a factor that sped up my decision. It was really hard cutting back but by the time we fully weaned it all worked out. Delayed ovulation and short LP were helped a bit by B6 and possibly vitex. Good luck!!!

Thanks @MrsMccarthy: yes my daughter just isn't ready to give up her nighttime session just yet, but we are working on it! I looked for any similar posts and didn't see them, I will have to look again. Did you take B6 in addition to prenatals?

I got pregnant with #2 while still BF #1. Didn't vote on the poll because my situation was totally different. We went through 2 years TTC for our first pregnancy, ended up having to go through IVF. But got pregnant naturally the second time around when LO was 9 months old. I was still nursing/pumping around the clock and had gotten my period back around 7/8 months pp.

@BlessedMama: I take a prenatal with vitex in the morning and a B6 with D3 in the eve.

I'm not voting, because there's not an option for me. I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and have a 14 month old. It took us 7 months to get pregnant the first time, and this time around it took 1 month of ntnp. I got my period about 4 months pp. My 14 month old still nurses on demand!

I got pregnant with #2 when I was BFing LO 1. My period was regular at that point.

I got my period back 7/8 months pp. It took 5/6 months of NTNP to get pregnant. LO was still nursing 3/4 times a day. I was also encouraged by 2 different doctors to wean as soon as possible but definitely before 20 weeks, just in case her nursing could be a problem with LO growing in my tummy.

I was nursing once in the AM and once in the PM when I got my BFP with #2 (DS was 12 months). I had tracked my period since it's return at 5 months PP (boo!) and was pretty sure of my O dates. It only took 1 cycle of trying.

I got KU on our first cycle TTC#2 while still nursing am/pm only. That ended in a m/c, unfortunately, but I don't think it had anything to do with nursing. Good luck!

I don't know if it was coincidence or not, but I was unsuccessful the first 2 months when I had not fully weaned.

I had to start cut back on nursing sessions in order to stand having sex. We pulled the goalie two months ago and continued to cut down sessions. We totally weaned on Friday to eliminate any possible issue related to that and TTC.

I was still BF'ing my DD five to six times per day when I got pregnant with#2, DD was 10.5 months old at the time. I'd only had my cycle back for one month and wasn't paying attention to it as we were NTNP.

When I got my cycle back and was nursing full time, I had a really long cycle and a really short LP. I started weaning Xander anyway because I wanted to stop pumping, and I was able to get pregnant when I was nursing just once a day.

I wasn't trying to get pregnant, but got my BFP when LO was 10 months old-I was about 4 weeks pregnant. I was still nursing in morning and night, no period had returned.

I had some very light spotting when DS was almost 11 months which I guess was my first period. I suspected that I ovulated a couple weeks later so we tried and it worked. I was still only breastfeeding (no formula or cow milk) and had not cut back at all.
Eta - I voted that it was same as first time but we were ntnp for several months first time around before a cp and then got pregnant with DS on the second cycle actually trying. So if anything it was easier second time.

I had a cp our first cycle ntnp while still nursing. We got a sticky bfp two weeks after i fully weaned. It was month four ttc.

I was still nursing several times a day and got pregnant within 2 months.

I was breastfeeding about 7? times a day up until B was 8 months old. At that point I wanted to try and get my cycle back so we could start trying for #2. I cut down to 3 feeds a day and got my cycle back within about 2-3 weeks. I'm not sure if it was related or not. I got pregnant on my second cycle of ttc, which was the same as with #1. I thought it was going to take longer as my LP with my first PP cycle was only 8 days. I was very surprised to be pregnant the next cycle. Good luck!

None of the options really fit me- we started trying at 10 months pp, and it took 9 months (#1 took 11). I was carrying around extra padding, and while I didn't wean entirely, we were at 1-2 feedings a day and well on our way to that. Once I lost some of the extra baby weight, I got pregnant within a month. I kept up with the weaning plan once pregnant because nursing was super uncomfortable after that.

I was co bedding and he was nursing throughout the night and I was pumping twice a day at work. I got my first period at 12 months pp and got pregnant right away. Good luck to you!

I was still nursing LO (12/13m) twice a day when I got pregnant the first cycle NTNP with #2.

I was nursing my 12 month old once a day, and had maybe 1 period before getting pregnant again using NTNP.

@Mrsjets @MamaCate: Thanks! That sounds pretty similar to me. We nurse typically only at night and some mornings and my period came back around 4-5 months too. My DD is 22 months. Fingers crossed!

We were down to morning and night then night sessions. It took 9 months but #1 took a year.
My period came back 9m pp and our bfp was when LO was 19m.

This thread is interesting to me, because if I want a second baby, I have to act sooner than later, but my 13 month old still nurses...a lot, and I can't imagine weaning at this point. I wonder when my cycle is coming back, if ever, haha!

I got pregnant while still breastfeeding my 14 month old twice a day, morning and night. Sometimes more than twice a day if he asked (mostly weekends). TTC #2 was actually way faster than TTC #1! #1 took 9 cycles, #2 took 1! For the record I had my period back (but not totally regular) since 6 months postpartum. -
@MoonMoon: my LO was (is!) still nursing a tonne and my cycles came back at fifteen months pp following a week of longer stretches of night sleep. My LO is now 21 months old and still nursing 5-6 times a day (incl overnight) and I just got a BFP yesterday.

ETA - It took twelve months to get our first BFP, only two to get this one
