DH and I want to start trying for another LO soon and we really want a little girl since we already have an awesome little boy. Did anyone try the shettles method? Did it work?

I didn't. I was worried we would have trouble getting pregnant at all so I just wanted to stack the odds towards getting pregnant without avoiding days to avoid one gender. I also have no pref on gender anyway but I could see it more for the second.

It took us a while to get pregnant so we didn't try any particular method, but when we conceived our son it was 2 days before ovulation, which is right on the threshold, I think.
I have it on good authority that reverse cowgirl makes girls
(ETA: "good authority"=a drunk guy with two daughters DH and I met at a party like 3 years ago, lol)

Nope, same as @FutureMrsMcK! But, I we had sex the day before and the day after ovulation and of course we have a boy! I want a girl next, too, but we won't be trying for a year, I don't think

We conceived a boy on the first try with WJ by trying the day I ovulated and the day after. So I figured with trying for LMW, since we had the luxury of time, we tried the Shettles Method to try for a girl. We tried 3 full days before I ovulated... and we got a girl!
Here's my post on it!

If Shettles method worked then if you abstained and had an IUI only, you should end up with a boy right? I'd be curious if there's ever been a study on that.

when trying for #2 we conceived just 1 night prior to ovulation, so according to Shettles, we should have had a boy, but we had a girl.

We might try the Shettles method for a boy next time!

@marionberry: I'm curious about this method as it relates to IUI too. But maybe it doesn't really work if you IUI because all of the sperm are put right in there where they need to be. All of the lazy boy sperm and strong girl sperm. I think this is officially the first time I have written out the word sperm this many times

We will be using the shettles method to try for a boy next time. With our girl we got pregnant on the first try so I'm willing to risk having it take a little longer to get pregnant in order to try for a boy.

sorry.. bumping old thread.. So I got the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor and so far it says that I have "high fertility" not "peak fertility." My guess is if we are trying for a girl, we should only have sexy time when I'm high fertility because that gives us a better shot at a girl, right? And no sexy time during peak fertility because that's better chance of a boy?? Does that make sense?

We tried for a girl and got a girl! @littlek I think you are correct although I charted and aimed for 2-4 days pre ovulation.

We DTD Tuesday & I ovulated Thursday , we got a girl!

@littlek: I used the CBEFM (I love it) and on the month we conceived, I only got highs, never got a peak. Just thought I would let you know as it does happen sometimes with them. The months previous I had "text book" CBEFM cycles and always got a peak. I would recommend reading the back of the sticks to really highlight when you have the LH surge.
Good Luck expanding your family!!!!

@littlek: we did the dance 3 days before I ovulated (I believe... I never tracked my ovulation, I just know because of physical signs) and conceived a girl! When we conceived WJ we did the dance the day before and the day of ovulation.

This is interesting. I'm pretty sure that my boy LO was conceived because we had sex right before and after ovulation, totally bookended it. I have a ClearBlue monitor I bought the month I got pregnant. I'll keep this thread in mind when we try for a girl.
Also, I have friends that conceived their boy early in her ovulation time frame too. She made it sound like it was going to be a girl, but they have another son. So who knows!

Sorry, but to be honest it sounds like a good way to set yourself up for potential disappointment...
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@cascademom: it's all about which sperm gets through the egg shell first so even if you set conditions to favor one, all it takes is one of the other gender to beat out all the others!!
I always say that I knew LMW would be a big, strong girl because that sperm lived in my body for 3 days before the egg came down. So she not only survived 3 days but also beat out anyone else who survived along with her.
This is, of course, all in good fun

@littlek: funny story actually... even though we tried the shettles method to conceive a girl (our first is a boy), when we found out it had actually worked, we were kind of disappointed! Having another boy would have been so easy in terms of preparation-- wouldn't have to buy a single thing!! And neither of us could picture ourselves with a daughter. But of course about 24 hours later I was so, so thrilled to have one of each.

@mrs. wagon: That's what makes the science of conceiving so fascinating! We tried Shettles early on in our TTC. It felt like we didn't have a shot at conceiving at all during that time. I heard that ovulation pains are stronger after having an LO. I'm hoping it is and hope that it works to conceive a girl for our LO #2.

@littlek: haven't tried it but yes, to my understand once it says peak: you stop. Good luck either way! So exciting:)

@littlek: I am currently trying the shettles method to help us conceive at all. Wish me Baby Dust! Has anyone else used shettles to conceive at all? I've always wanted twins lol!!
coconut / 8475 posts
@JAP2014: what do you mean to conceive at all? The shettles method is only to aim at having a specific sex.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
@littlek: Are you guys still doing this? We used Shettles when TTC #1 because DH really wanted a boy. We got a girl. I told him this time we get what we get.

@septca: we will get what we get... I just want a healthy baby at the point

@CupQuakeWalk: Hey thanks for responding , we are using Shettles to help us conceive either gender apparently it's supposed to help you conceive a little easier by timing closer to ovulation.
coconut / 8475 posts
@JAP2014: you should read about the Sperm Meets Egg Plan. I think that's what you're referring to because it's the same idea but without having gender specific intentions. You can search it on hellobee by using "SMEP" and I'm sure you'll find info.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@JAP2014: Actually they do NOT suggest shettles if you are just trying to get pregnant.
pea / 12 posts
@CupQuakeWalk: Thank you so much for the info I will look into it. "SMEP. Why do you ladies think it's harder to conceive using Shettles? I have read alot about shettles and whelan approach ( all natural ways to conceive ) but I do not see anything about it being harder using ovulation method....can u give me a heads up why it's harder ttc using shettles?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@JAP2014: I believe it's because shettles has you not trying as often as possible, depending on which gender you're going for. You either stop before ovulation or don't start as early. SMEP has you starting earlier and not stopping until after O, which is what you want to be doing to maximize your odds.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
@Torchwood: Exactly. With the Shettles method, you limit when you BD. With SMEP, you BD your face off.
pea / 12 posts
@septca: what does BD mean? is there a place to get all your abbreviations? I know OD=ovulation day CD= Cycle day O=ovulation DTD=doing the deed? TTC=trying to conceive BT=Basal temperature SMEP= semen meets egg plan but all the others I don't get and find it difficult
coconut / 8854 posts
@JAP2014: BD = Baby Dance = Have sex
