I know this is a slightly older post, but just wanted to chime in for anyone considering it that the shettles method is NOT backed by any science - further tests have actually shown that there is no difference at all in the speed or lifespan of X vs. Y sperm. Of course there will be some people who did it that got the gender they were trying for, but that's because there's a 50% chance of that happening.
Back when DH and I cared about gender (now we're going on month 6 and I don't care at all anymore, I just want to get pregnant!) I found the forums over at genderdreaming.com to be the most helpful - all of the advice given by their moderators is based on recent scientific evidence. Most of it involves supplements and diet changes to help affect your ph levels and DH's sperm, since those are two of the only things that can actually affect it.

@wonderstruck: I'll try this site out because I'd rather change our diets than schedule when to and when not to have sex. We're on cycle 7 or 8 and I am in no position to turn down sex haha.

@wonderstruck: I agree with you. But of course, there are some ladies who don't follow shettles to a T and then get mad but there is something bizarre happening because if it were truly 50 50 chance of getting either gender, then why do I see ALL my friends conceiving girls? My husband's family has 10 females and only 1 boy born in the last 7 years. That to me doesn't sound like 50/50 chance, my brother just had a boy and he confided that he did doggy style with a strong thrust and then had his son. My other friend also confided they did doggy and have a cute little 4 month old boy too. Maybe it's not in the foods we eat, but position seems to have some truth to it...my husband want's a boy and I don't care what we have as long as the babies healthy and happy..would be happy to have a baby at all ...and am frusterated beyond belief. Am turning to OPK's these last couple of months to help us and still no luck. I don't even think I ovulated last month!! I have done extensive research on why so many more females are being born in the last 10 years and it's been said that all the BPA's (female hormone immitators ) in our plastics coming from china and bleeding into our food through containers is causing female hormone distruption...overwhelming our bodies with female hormones. I guess we will have to wait and see but just avoid plastics also ontop of shettles method. My husband want's a boy so much that he threw out all my new plastic tubberware containers and bought glass only! lol.. was soo mad! lol...

@CupQuakeWalk: Haha yeah, I was afraid to try timing methods because they can make it hard to get pregnant at all. Changing my diet is really really hard for me so I kind of flaked on the other advice too.
@JAP2014: You just have to look at it mathematically - think of it like flipping a coin. 50/50 chance of getting heads, right? But if you flip a coin 10 times in a row, you're probably not going to hit tails 5 times and heads 5 times, and you wouldn't be surprised to get more of one than the other. But when you look at the population as a whole, it evens out. Anecdotal evidence aside, because one person or ten people does not prove a theory. Whenever science has done a proper study and looked at a large amount of people (which Shettles never did) and compared position, timing of sex, etc., it finds that you always have approximately a 50/50 chance. And I don't know what you've been reading about female hormones, I haven't done a lot of research, but I've never heard of their being any evidence of the female's hormones affecting gender. How does this research say that your hormones are affecting which of your DH's sperm gets to your egg??

@littlek: We were just TTC in general ... Looking back, Shettles would have been correct for when we conceived. We had a little girl, and that was consistent with the date in relation to ovulation.

@JAP2014: Some families are also just more likely to have all boys or all girls. Look at the Osmonds. They had 8 boys and 1 girl. The next generation was about the same, significantly more boys than girls. So there are times when numbers may look skewed, but position/timing has nothing to do with it. That being said, if you would rather do doggy so you feel like you did everything you can, it can't hurt. But using Shettles and not BDing whenever you can will hurt your odds of conceiving. You may want to join the POAS (pee on a stick) threads or TTC (trying to conceive) boards, to get some support in how stressful all this can be. http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/february-flurries-february-2014-bfps-and-poas is the current poas thread.

@wonderstruck: The female hormones are in our milk, eggs, cheeses , containers, soy milks, tofu's , edemame ( asian appetizer at sushi restaurants ) beef etc... men and women both who eat and use these products ingest more female hormones in our day to day lives and this effects our reproductive health. In a way, it sways us too. So much attention has been given to this but in hush hush so much so now that you can read BPA free on most good quality plastics like travel water bottles etc. It's just safer to use glass like the old days. We are not impermeable, things do come through our human shell and alter our ph etc. My suggestion to these shettle ladies would be to switch to glass containers as much as humanly possible for storing and purchasing food, do doggy style combined with electronic clitoral stimulation while in position, 1 day before ovulation ( not ON ) so when clearblue days PEAK not HIGH fertility. ( if possible ) let the man have coffee 1 hour before, limit milk and cheeses for 2 weeks before you try, eat a banana in your cereal each morning or have peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch..limit alcohol consumption or not at all for 1 month prior to trying ( but on the day you try you can have a glass of wine Red ) cuz it wouldn't affect your ovaries within 20 mintues make sure the man abstains from sex and ejaculation 3 days leading upto trying and then get him really aroused with extra visual stimulation ie: either through sexy videos and/or lingerie. Re: question regarding DH's sperm...he is eating food too.. he needs to do diet too for atleast 2 weeks leading upto trying.. that just makes sense to me. We have more chemicals in the air and in everything we eat...due to less mom and pop shops and more coroporation just looking at the bottom dollar. Things are not the same and things do get hidden...because if a corporation admits scientifically or pays for this research...they will owe the masses millions if there is an admission of guilt, so they just use their own researchers.. pay for their own researchers and make the changes necessary without any proof.. to cover their own butts. But these are just my opinion and my thoughts on the subject, but I did a little experiment and flipped a quarter 10 times and it came up heads 4 times, tails 6
then I did it again and it came up tails 3 and heads 7....why are the odds of flipping a coin more accurate then the babies that surround us?

@Torchwood: thank you and I think you are correct on certain families produce more or less of one gender but could this not also be due to what that family eats? or the habits of each family being repetitive/habitual? ( ie: some families eat certain foods, are comfortable dtd in only certain positions? etc..) I know that I am not comfortable dtd 'reverse cowgirl' for eg. and would never try to conceive this way. But you are 100% correct on one thing... the stress added to this shettles method approach is stressful and that alone will decrease conception exponentially. So if you can do the things that might help sway either pink or blue, but on day of trying...relax...then maybe it could work? No idea.. so far nothing for us. Will only give this another month or two and then it'll all be random take it when it's available approach lol.
