We find out next week if baby is a he or she. If it is a boy, I really like Connor.
My questions are this:
Is Connor the most tranditional spelling?
Can you think of any nicknames other than Connie?

Connor is the most common way I've seen it spelled, though I know a Conor also. As far as nicknames, I don't think its one that gets shortened often.

I have seen both Connor and Conor. I prefer two Ns, personally. I don't think it's usually shortened.

Oh and I like the name a lot. I have a cousin Conor already though.

@ladybee: we named ds this. I think Conor is used more often in Ireland and the UK but Connor is more popular is the U.S. I liked the double n's.
We call him all kinds of nicknames of words that just start with Con but nothing to use as a real everyday nickname. I love calling him by his first and middle together though.
It's a great name!!

I have seen Conner, but not as often as Connor. Have never seen it as Conor

@yellowbird: what middle name did you go with? It's the debate in our house right now.

@Foodnerd81: I'm glad you like it! I haven't heard it much in our life but I met a student at school the other day named Connor and I really liked it!

I love Connor! I'm pretty sure 'traditionally' it's spelt Conor (Ireland), but the Americanized way is Connor.

I really like Connor. I don't we could use it though, because we already have a Declan and people ask us all the time if we're Irish. I am a little, but I think it would be weird to have two very Irish names .
How about Connor James?

I love Connor! It might have been on my short list but we have a nephew with the name already. I've prefer the -or spelling, and don't know any real nicknames, although BIL calls him Con-man sometimes
ETA: His middle name is William, after one of his grandfathers.

I know of at least one middle-aged man in my hometown named Con. I'm not sure if he spells it Conor or Connor, but given that it's a very Irish-influenced area (Newfoundland, Canada), it's probably Conor. My dad jokes that you should never trust a man named Con (i.e., con man), but Con is actually a friend of his, so it's rather tongue-in-cheek.

My 3 year old is a Connor. It's my absolute favorite boy name! We don't use any nickname, but I've heard few of the teachers at his school call him Con. Doesn't bother me to hear them do it but I'm not really a fan personally.

I know a little Conor, Connor, and Conner. I haven't heard them use any nicknames, and the only middle name I remember is Lee.

I think Conor is most traditional but not most common. I like it, but it's pretty common in our circle. In a six month period, our friends had a Conor, a Connor, a Connell and a Connolly. Plus DD2's godfather is a Connor!

My nephew is Connor, and we have a ton of silly nicknames for him, but nothing that is used regularly. Never Connie, though.
My favorite is El Connorino, if you're not into that whole brevity thing.

@ms.line: Lee is my choice as it's my dad's name. DH said no since this will be our last child, he doesn't want to leave his dad out of the name game.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@ladybee: isn't his dad's last name already there anyway? And your dad's probably isn't? (Making assumptions which I do realize aren't always true, sorry!). That was my argument if Dh ever wanted to use his dad's name at all (which he didn't anyway).
That said I think Connor sounds good with a lot of middle names.

I've actually seen Kohner as well. I do believe that was a family surname repurposed as a first name, but I really like it. I think Connor is a great name!

@Foodnerd81: that is a valid argument that I will be using! However, I think the real reason is he just doesn't like it but won't say that.

My friends have a Connor - love the name! They occasionally shorten it to Con.

@ladybee: I've only ever seen it spelled Connor. Con for a NN. It's cute!

Connor is a runner in our list if #2 is a boy! I've seen it end in -er, but I prefer the -or spelling.

I like it! I see Connor and also don't know any shorts for it.

@LadyBee: With respect to the middle name, would you be willing to have two middle names: Lee to honour your father, and the other for your FIL. My LO has two middle names for the same reason. I don't like FIL's name, but we used it as the second middle name, as a compromise.
