Our toddler started to cosleep when i was pregnant, i think she knew changes were coming. After we brought baby home she knew she had to be in her bed because the baby cried a lot at night. It worked for us for the most part and never felt like the baby replaced her. We talked about it leading up to me having the baby as well, that she would have to sleep in her room since the baby cries.

DS1 was 20 months old when his brother was born. He slept with us and the baby slept in a rock n play next to us. He never woke up from the cries, but I did tend to the baby quickly. DS2 then moved to his crib where he stayed up until about 9 months. At that point, he stopped STTN and would wake up at some point ( usually around 3 am ). I would then bring him in the bed with us for the last couple hours of sleep. Now, I have a 3 year old and 18 month old in my bed pretty much all night. I'm pregnant with #3 now. I figure I will do the same. And hopefully someone moves out the bed when the baby decides they want to join us. I plan to set up the boys room soon and I hope that makes them want to sleep there. If not, we'll I guess it and make it work.

LO1 was 18 month old when LO2 was born. LO1 slept in an side bassinet till he was 5 month old and cosleeps with us ever since. I wanted to put Lo2 in the side bassinet but she hated it and only sleeps very close to me (= her milk). So we attached a single bed to our bed and DS sleeps in it and can come over to cuddle any time. It's working well now (Lo2 is 3 month old), both sleep and LO1 is not waking up when I nurse Lo2 and Lo2 is not waking up when Lo1 asks for his bottle. (During the very colicy times though, Lo2 and I slept in the guest room for about 3 weeks) Lo1 has his usual bedtime routine, goes to bed falls asleep etc. I wait till Lo2 is asleep on my arm, we go to bed, she wakes up, I nurse her and she goes back to sleep. She wakes every 2-4 hours and nurses, when she starts crying and won't stop after some minutes I take her out of the room. So far it worked for us.
Lo1s sleep is pretty much the same than before baby, the only thing that changed are his naps. He used to nap for about one hour, now he naps 2-3,5 hours... But his naps are strange anyway, he insists on sleeping in his stroller...

LO1 was 20 months when LO2 was born. We would cosleep from when he woke up in the middle of the night (anywhere from 10pm - 3am). LO1 would wake up when LO2 would wake and I think it started to annoy him. He started sleeping through the night in his own room on his own pretty much. Sometimes he would start the night in his crib and wake up and just ask to be put in the twin bed we also had in his room. Once he started going to sleep in the bed he would only rarely wake and come in our room. He is 3 now and does not want to sleep in our room ever. He only wants his own bed.
