DS is in 2nd grade and his list is MUCH longer - too much for me to add up but I purposely chose some more expensive items - for example - last year he had a flimsy plastic folder that managed to get ripped so this year instead of paying 60 cents each I bought the heavy duty ones for $2.50 each.

I also buy erasers and pencils in bulk -ha! So I had lots left over from last year and didn't have to buy those this year for him

I ordered the "kit" from the school supply company the school uses at the end of last year. The cost was $29.50. Seems reasonable to me, since I have been through the hassle of going place to place to find the right item!

@Mamaof2: yup that was me 2 years ago. Never again!

I haven't added it all up and we don't have everything yet, but we have to buy all pens, pencils, markers, rulers, glue, backpack and pencil case, all pretty basic stuff and I think that will be between €30-40. The school buys all the paper goods so that all the kids have the same thing and then they bill us. The cost for that is supposed to be €50 or less for the whole year. I think it's reasonable. Our kids don't pool supplies as we are supposed to put their name on every item and one of the goals is that the kids are responsible for and keep track of their own stuff.

@Mamaof2: that would drive me insane, having to go to multiple places!

This year I happened to be at Walmart and got some of the stuff, and I'll complete it via another trip to Walmart for the household supplies. Or amazon, lol.
