I'm impressed! I can't get *me* back to school for that little

I teach 2nd grade and our principal had us make our school supplies list under $50. That may sound like a lot but we really do use what we ask for!

I teach public pre-k for at-risk kids, so we provide pretty much everything....which means a lot of it comes from the teachers! DH (3rd grade teacher) and I went school shopping last week and spent wayyy too much!

@Mrs. Jacks: LOL! I'm a Pre-K Teacher, so I have an idea of what she'll need....plus I'm a borderline hoarder!

@emg86: whoa! does that include clothes and backpacks and shoes or is that just the required list of supplies from the school??

@lilteacherbee: I've already dropped close to $200 on supplies for my classroom!

I'm lucky enough to teach at a school that gives each grade level team a small budget for us to purchase extra supplies, folders, etc. Sometimes I feel like we get too many supplies (I don't need Elmer's wet glue or a jillion dry erase markers) but I try to give extra paper, cleaning wipes, etc back to kids at the end of the year to reuse the next year.

I think with DS's backpack and all his supplies, I spent less than $40. The school district just gives us a supply list and we go by that.

For me, though, I plopped down $514 in textbooks.

I always buy extra of stuff on the list and stock up. My mom did that, too, and most years she didn't have to buy hardly anything, cause she'd have a huge stash of school supplies. I'll be doing that, also!

For preschool we pay a supplies "fee" of about 240 usd per semester and we don't have to buy them. Seems like a lot to me now that I read this but I am glad we don't have to buy ourselves. Then in kinder and grade school supplies are included in tuition where my kids will go....

I have several students who can't afford supplies or they just don't bring them. Most years I stalk the sales so it doesn't get to pricey. I'm lucky enough that my DH doesn't complain and his boss donates winter coats so that helps. Plus I have one parent that always sends in extras. Over the summer I probably spend $100 but they deserve it.
