Who has the same name as a family member?
I'm not dating LOL but I remember when I dated a guy who had the same name as my brother. It was SUPER awkward and weird, especially during intimacy. So I ended up calling him by his first initial instead.

Nope. Couldn't do it. They would have to be super amazing to convince me otherwise

DH's cousin married a man with the same name as her dad!
I think it would squick me out

@blackbird: my sister did this, too. I wouldn't have been able to!

DH shares a name with my dad and my cousin. It's never been weird..... I don't really understand why it would be. I don't call my dad that name, I call him Dad.

This girl I know has the same first and maiden names as her MIL. Seems so weird to me!

My first mature kiss was with a boy that had my dad's name. My dad went by a couple nicknames, so it wasn't too awkward because the boy used their full name. I had a crush on a boy that had my brother's name. They both used the nickname versions, but my friends and I already referred to the crush as "Cool Name." Once again, a slight name variation save the day! LOL

@skipra: I know a man married to a woman who has the same name as his mom. Neither women use nicknames.

What about all of the people who give their son the same name as their husband? Is that not in a similar category? Assuming they continue sleeping with their husband... Lol

I had a relationship with a guy who had the same name as my brother. They spelled it differently, however, so somehow in my brain there was never any confusing them. Sometimes when I talked about one of them, my mom would stop me to ask, "wait, your ***** or my *****?"

@loveisstrange: exactly! I call my dad Dad... He and DH and FIL all have the same name. It's never been creepy.

I think it would be too weird, however my brother is engaged to someone with my name, and it's not too weird, just a little confusing.

I don't think it's that weird. I have the same name as my husbands sister. We don't really say each other's names when we're being intimate. I don't think it's an issue because he thinks of me and not his sister.

My husband and middle brother have the same first name. It's only weird at family gatherings when I have to call for one or the other.

My high school/early college boyfriend who I dated for 6 years had the same name as my twin brother! It was weird, but I got used to it after awhile. I actually got into the habit of calling my twin brother "my brother" rather than "Steve" when talking about him. This habit has lasted until today, almost 9 years after that old relationship ended!

This is my unfortunate reality... My husband and a relative I don't like share the same name. It's not DH's fault lol! They're nothing alike, so there is absolutely no connection in my mind and it doesn't weird me out.

I dated someone with the same name as my little brother. It wasn't weird though. But it's a pretty common name too.

DH has the same name as my grandpa, but I never called my grandpa by his first name so it wasn't a problem.

I think the only name I would have a hard time with is my own (or if they went by the nickname I go by).

Haha one of my bff's is married to a guy with the same name as her dad (Randy) and my cousin is married to a guy with the same name as her dad (Steve) too!! So I wouldn't have written someone off because of their name.
Actually my mum's long-term boyfriend has the same name as my dad (her ex-husband)... I always thought that must have been weird!

Wouldn't bother me.
My dad's sister "C" married a man with the same name as their brother "M". "M" married a C! So I have 2 uncle M and aunt C's on the same side!

@QBbride: my aunt's second husband has the same name as her first, too. It's also the name of her eldest son from the first marriage!

My dad and my DH have the same nickname. I call DH by his full name and I call my father 'Dad'...problem solved! It does get confusing at family gatherings though.

Wouldn't bother me at all for a 1st name
However in college there was a guy who had the same last name as me except for 1 letter (pronounced the same) and I just couldn't date him - that was too weird!!!

I know two male/female couples that actually share the same first name. I also know one woman whose married last name is the same as her first name

My mom's boyfriend of several years has the same name as my brother and one of her cousins - it is really confusing!

@Mrs. Jacks: I know a Morgan M. Morgan. She mostly still goes by her maiden name.

@sunny: I don't want her to google herself and find this, but it rhymes with Hailey Hailey

Wouldn't mind it for my dad since I only call him dad and never by his first name. But the idea of doing it with someone with my brother's name.... SHUDDER
grapefruit / 4355 posts
My DH's name is one letter different from my brother's. My brother's name is DH's with an "r" on the end. Honestly, I've never thought twice about it. It isn't a big deal to me.

I dated a guy with my brother's name all through college. It's a common name. We had nicknames to make it work better!

@Mrs. Jacks: in grad school I knew a Robert and Roberta who shared the same last name even before they got married!

Haha. Yeah, all of the men in my family share my husband's name. I've honestly never ever thought of it like that. It's never bothered me.
