For those with LOs drinking cows milk, did you switch to low fat milk at 2? I've heard differing opinions on whether to keep going on whole milk?

To be honest my daughters never drank whole milk. Their pedi said it wasn't needed for them to get that extra fat. They have always drank 2% without fail.

@Crisark: did it have anything to do with their weight percentile?

@Andrea: They were always right where they needed to be. Never over or under weight.
Pedi said it was useless calories and they got the nutrients they needed from 2% without the added fat.
They are both perfectly healthy little girls.

@Crisark: thanks. my DD has always been 25th - 50th weight percentile. perhaps i can switch her to 2%, i'll have to remember to discuss it at her next appt!

@Andrea: I would recommend it. I was always worried the added fat/calories in the whole milk wasn't needed really and the DR agreed.
They went from formula to 2% and love it.
It's really whatever works for each child but I don't think I'd give our 3rd one anything else when the time comes.

My LO is still on whole milk too. We have a doc appt next month so I'm gonna ask her about the low fat milk switch. Thanks for the reminder!!

RJ is at 70th percentile in weight at 2 years old, and we're still on whole milk. Since he's got short genes (and he measured at 11th percentile for height) I want to give him as much chance as possible to grow! I asked our pedi and he said staying with whole milk for now is ok as long as he stays active... which is really not a problem. haha.

@mrs. wagon: i guess i didn't even think too much about height. my daughter is 90th percentile height -- i don't want her to be too tall, should i switch to 2%? LOL. but yes, i don't think staying active is too hard for most 2 year olds!
