My LO has been crawling for about a week and half but just started sitting up by himself two days ago! He looked so proud when he finally did it 
I always thought that sitting up was supposed to come well before crawling.
Did your LO crawl before he or she sat up? If so, did he or she do anything else "out of order"?

It wasn't before, but mine did both the same day. He also rolled back to front long before he ever rolled front to back (I think the latter usually comes first).

@FutureMrsMcK: What a day that must have been! Mine also rolled back to front first, and still rarely rolls front to back - he's perfectly capable of it but doesn't seem to see the point.

Looks like mine will be! He can sit up UA for like 4 mins?? But he tries so hard to crawl, I think he will master that skill first.

@Giraffe: Yeah, DS doesn't see the point either. He'll roll onto his back sometimes when he's in his crib, but if he's on the floor he wants to be up and crawling.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: wow, 4 minutes is long! I think my guy was more motivated to crawl too. He was working hard on it for about two months before he finally put it all together.
@FutureMrsMcK: Our sons sound a lot alike. Mine wants to crawl even in his crib - he still looks surprised when he runs out of room in there.

@Giraffe: How old is yours? Mine has just started pulling himself up...whereas before he would crawl and roll around in his crib now if he's not sleepy he'll stand up holding the sides. So cute.

@Giraffe: our kids are so much alike! Mine rolled belly to back first but VASTLY prefers to roll back to belly. Like 1,000: 1 ratio lol

@FutureMrsMcK: He'll be eight months next week. How old is yours? Mine is trying to pull up too, but is still pretty wobbly - it's a little scary so far. He seems to get such a kick out of all these new, grown-up things, though. I love watching his expressions.
@Mrs. Sketchbook: Around my house we get excited when we actually spot him rolling front to back, since it's such a rare occurrence! How old is your LO?

charlie crawled before sitting up..... at least a month before!

@Giraffe: He's a few days shy of 7.5 months. After I posted I thought I remembered that our LOs were pretty close in age, but by then I was in the bath 
The first time he pulled himself up was in the tub, and he immediately tried to launch himself out, so I definitely understand the fear. I try not to, but it's really hard not to let my hands hover around him (and when he stands in the tub they do more often than not).

LO was pulling herself to stand before crawling. She just started crawling last week, and was pulling up about two weeks prior.

She crawled a few days before sitting up on her own the first time. She'd only sat up on her own about twice until yesterday (she's been crawling for almost a month). She's been getting better at it and trying to sit up on her own more.

@Mrs. Bee: wow, a whole month! I had been led to believe that the motor skills involved in sitting were also necessary for crawling, but clearly that can't be true...
@FutureMrsMcK: I had a feeling they were close in age, but I didn't realize it was that close! My LO hasn't tried to pull up in the tub yet, fortunately, but he is doing it everywhere else now and has gotten pretty solid. I'm a terrible hoverer by nature, but am trying hard to get over it. It's definitely making bedtime more challenging.
@Mrs. Sketchbook: Just under a month younger than my LO! I bet he'll be crawling soon.
@Mrs. Cat in the Cradle: A friend's LO did the same thing - he was much more interested in being vertical than in exploring what was on the floor.
@BelugaBean: My LO still isn't sitting up very much on his own either. Too busy moving around!

@Giraffe: P didn't start sitting until after she crawled... I think the crawling helped strengthen her back muscles.

I read somewhere that crawling before sitting is actually a really natural progression! It's something to do with the way babies roll onto their tummies, push up on to their knees to crawl and then turn back over to sit.

LMW is scooting forward (but not really crawling with the alternate hand/foot action) but can't sit up on her own yet for more than a few seconds! She's 8 months old!!
