we use breathable bumpers. i wouldn't feel safe with regular bumpers, but the aap came out against all bumpers, including breathable ones.

the breathable ones are so thin olive sometimes pushes them all the way down. sometimes when she does, her leg gets stuck in the crib slats. so i prefer to have them on there. i adjust them almost every day, but it only takes a second.

we used the bumpers that came with her crib bedding. Like @looch, I am aware of what the AAP states, but was very comfortable with our decision to use them. I took them out when she started standing and dropped her mattress down.
