Anyone wrap their crib mattress to help prevent SIDS?

I wonder why, if the solution is so simple, it's not done all over the world or in the US. If you're wrapping your mattress, is it then less important to buy an expensive one made with organic materials? By that I mean that in a selfish way, not in an important for the environment kind of way. seems like if it's getting all sealed up it wouldn't matter as much.
We're still TTC, so I've got plenty of time to research more, but I'm curious what your thoughts on mattress wrapping are
I guess I feel like it's so inexpensive and simple and doesn't pose any risk by doing it, so why not do it? I also kept the LO I nannied for rear facing in the car for an extended period long before the AAP changed their recommendations, because I knew it wouldn't be LESS safe, it was shown to work in other countries, and we tend to take a lot of research to change our minds before we change our practices in the US. Which can be good, but it can also slow down positive change. I hope they do more research into this, seems both sides have holes in their arguments, but I think they could be on to something!
