We used a pool noodle under his sheet. The bed that we got for him didn't work with a traditional bed rail. He's fallen off maybe a handful of times onto a rug with a huge stuffed animal that we have against his bed as a "cushion." Never been an issue for us really

We don't use anything but mostly because she's in a queen sized bed. But I would say even in a smaller bed she would t need it because she doesn't move much. The rail would be more for my peace of mind.

We didn't. I bought one but DH and I like to crawl in bed with DS to read books and it was a pain so we never used it. He's maybe fallen out once I can think of during nap and he actually stayed asleep. It's not a far fall like it would be from a box spring and mattress.

D wiggles a TON in bed, so I just picked up a couple of pool noodles at the dollar store. We're planning to take the front off the crib this weekend (it's gonig to be too hard for me to bend over the crib rail to pick him up soon).

The first night we switched to a toddler bed, he fell out within 5 minutes of falling asleep. So... Now we have a rail. I think he just moves a lot.

I think we are making the switch soon. I'm borrowing a few rails this weekend but sleep has been so terrible I just put a pool noodle under the side near the window and a rolled up towel on the open side. DH was sleeping in the bed with her last night and she rolled into the window and it scared her (closed and locked of course). Hence the rolls on both sides.

Right now we have a queen bed on box spring and bed frame. I think if we just take the bed frame out its low enough. And I probably will put the actual mesh rail at least on the window side. Like @matador84: we lay in bed to read books and sing before bed.

I guess I'll report back once we let her sleep in the bed by herself!
