I'm planning on making some cupcakes for Xander's birthday to bring into Preschool on Friday (double-checked with the teacher to avoid any food allergies). Should I make regular cupcakes or a bunch of mini ones??

Mini, because i want the teachers to like me and giving a bunch of 3 year olds cooped inside in the winter full-sized cupcakes sounds like hell to me.

Whatever has less mess?? I guess mini ones can be eaten easier by little hands? My MIL works at a daycare/preschool and she and the other teachers HATE cupcakes so much because they have so much frosting and it makes such a terrible mess of everything. She never says anything to the parents of course, but they do "suggest" Rice Krispies treats or even cookie cakes with the thicker, hardened frosting on top.

Mini. Once I ordered mini cupcakes from Whole Foods, and they messed up my order. They gave me full sized ones instead, and I felt horrible handing them out for the Halloween party. Thankfully parents were more than happy to bring the cupcakes back home and share with their kids.

I always make regular but I also don't make regular "cupcakes with frosting"!
I usually do something healthy like banana oat muffins with a Greek yogurt / honey frosting.

I have always done mini in the past. This year I am going to do regular sized ones. They won't eat the whole thing, easier to order the color frosting she wants, and then I don't have to bring any home.
We have to bring in store bought food. Can't make anything at home.

if you're making them, I'd do regular sized. you could always put a thin layer of frosting and add a cute topper on each.

@regberadaisy: We're not allowed to bring in homemade treats for the class...it has to be prepackaged with ingredients listed!

@chopsuey: Agree, I feel like homemade cup cakes dont have that mound of frosting like store bought ones.
For my daughters birthday she actually wanted brownies so I made mini brownie bites and the kids loved those.

Mini, it really irritates me when I find out LO has had a big cupcake at school, it's a lot of sugar!

And everything @Gingerbebe said! As a preschool teacher, the store brought cupcakes have Wayy too much frosting that gets everywhere. Kids throw most of it away too.

@gingerbebe: @misolee: Not to worry, ladies! I'm making them at home and I promise not to use too much frosting!
