Everything has slogans, characters or is just plain tacky. Where do you find cute boy toddler clothes??? Only place I like right now is mini Boden. Gap is still good for basics but what is up with wanting my toddler to be a skater??

Nope, they do not exist. I still shop from Carter's, but it's getting harder and harder to find stuff I like!

Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack, Lands End? I tend to dress my son very plainly, mostly solid color polo shirts or a tee with an applique, plain pants, madras shorts.
I need to branch out, but I hate shopping in stores, so I wonder if there is something I am missing from department stores like Nordies.
I like Gymboree for their fleece lined cargo pants in the winter. They come in great colors and stand up to my son sliding into first base on the carpet.
I get the plain polos at The Children's Place. They're about the same quality as RL.

Meh...I think everyone has their own definition of cute. We shop mainly at Gap, Old Navy and Joe Fresh (because I'm not going to drop a ton of cash for something that will get stained and rarely worn). We like stripes and solids and some graphics / text. He gets a huge say in what he wears these days though. I think he's pretty well-dressed!

I don't have a boy but I'd have a lot more money if I did! I think it's hard because girls have so many more options (skirts/dresses/rompers) in addition to just tops and pants/shorts. And for boys the only options are really solids, stripes, or plaid. I often see a bunch of cute boy stuff when I go to Baby Gap, though!

I think it depends on your definition of cute. I like the hipster look for my LO. I think your style is more preppy though, right? Have you checked out Crewcuts?

I think Nordstrom has a good variety of styles for kids. I always check the boys section just in case there's something we can use with LO's girlies stuff.

I don't have a boy but when shopping I have noticed boys clothes have writing all over it or are stripes. That is it.
If I had a boy I would buy this (ON) though. the elbow patches

I haven't bought anything toddler yet but I did buy some infant clothes from Splendid (which I also wear and love). Here's an example of their toddler sets:

I actually got a lot of my Splendid infant stuff at Century21 (not sure where you live but it's like a TJ Maxx or Nordstrom Rack). They had toddler too. They also had Vince which is another staple I love for myself! But they didn't have infant stuff so I'm waiting.
ETA: I also don't mind the cutesy stuff though It doesn't bother me but maybe I'll eventually get sick of it.

@Sammyfab: Joe Fresh is so cute!!!! I am always surprised at what I find there!
@Smurfette: Love elbow patches!

I love the J Crew kid clothes! (Is that the same as Crew Cuts?)

SO $$$, but SO adorable

@littlek: I have the SAME complaint. Where can I get a plain dadgum shirt that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
pomelo / 5220 posts
@littlek I worry about this already and LO isn't born yet. I hate all the cartoon cutesy stuff...

@littlek: Haha this made me laugh, "what is up with wanting my toddler to be a skater??" - I haven't had much luck with super cute boy clothes besides the basics either. Maybe you can check out some of the IG independent stores that Mrs. Bee shops at for Charlie? http://www.hellobee.com/2014/07/09/favorite-indie-childrens-clothing-stores/ - they might be $$$ though!

They totally do! Check these out: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HaddonCo?section_id=12182532

I have a girl but I like Janie and Jack, crew cuts, and h&m for trendy stuff for boys and girls.

@littlek: I could've written this myself!! I struggle to find cute things for J.
Recently I've had good luck at Crewcuts, Gap (basics, everything else is pretty hideous) and Janie & Jack.

I've actually found some really good basics at target this summer - simple solid/striped/plaid polos, tees, shorts. Not necessarily 'stylish' but pretty classic.

@.twist.: I know!! I think there's the perfect combo of preppy, hipster and casual at Joe Fresh. And the price point is perfect. I've even bought some girl stuff for my LO there.
@Smurfette: Love that shirt! I think a girl could wear that too!
I'm actually surprised people feel like there's nothing cute out there for boys. I feel like I can't stop shopping for my LO.
I also like H&M and I think Zara has really cute stuff though I haven't bought any kids' clothing from there yet.

I like Old Navy and Carter's. I get great basic shirts for my boy LO there as well as cute ones that seem Threadless licensed. I love Children's Place too.

I like to shop at Zara and H&M for my boys. Nextdirect.com is also nice, kinda like mini boden, just wish they have sales every now and then!

I think if I had a boy, I'd spend more but buy less. The good stuff seems to be a bit pricier for boys, but like my gf said, they only need a couple of bottoms to mix and match. I'd love Zara, Crewcuts, H&M, Peek, and a lot of IG shops these days are so cool for boys!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@Sammyfab: haha, I know, I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Janie and Jack...extra 20% off sales.
Part of my issue is that as my son has gotten older, he's basically destroying his clothing, so I don't want to spend too much, but I still have my taste. Couple that with him having a preference (like won't wear a button down), choices are limited.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Sammyfab: I know, it used to be a lot harder to find cute boy things, but they do seem to have SO many options now. Little boys are even wearing coloured jeans now!!!

My favorite brand for both girls and boys is Mayoral. We've gotten some cute stuff from 3pommes as well. And another brand that I can't remember off the top of my head. DS is zzzz so I can't go in and check the label.

@shopaholic: I maximize our clothes budget for LO by stocking up on basic bottoms and finding cute shirts for him. He gets nicer clothes for holidays, but other than that I assume that he's going to get them dirty.

@lawbee11: I like their baby boy section but not impressed with toddler offerings.

I hate most clothing with slogans and weird graphics on them. Zara makes a really good mix of clothing for boys. I just bought a ton from their AW14 collections. H&M have really get basics.

Have you tried consignment shops? We get the majority of our clothes as hand-me-downs and it seems like there are more basic clothes than I see in the stores. I don't like things with characters or slogans so I just weed those out. Often some outfits either have one ugly shirt or bottom and one more basic piece so you can mix and match. Doesn't make much sense to do that if you're buying new but secondhand you might be able to.

I think H&M has cute boy stuff. Not thrilled with their new collection but got some awesome clothes for my son there
This past spring/fall.

Target, Gap, H&M, and Old Navy have all been good to us for cute stuff without cartoons and writing.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
I get most of our stuff used from consignment stores, but my favorites come from target, carters and old navy. I don't like stuff with characters or sayings either, and we mostly have solid or striped t-shirts and polos. I guess it depends on your definition of cute. I like him to have stuff he can play in and get messy, so we don't really have anything fancy or expensive, but i think he is pretty cute anyway
