My husband says that he doesn't want to cut the cord. I told him that he had too that the Dad's always do it. But I really don't want to force him to do something he doesn't want too. I have no idea if he will feel different when we are in the middle of labor or not.

I voted no because I had a c-section and he wasnt allowed. He would have cut it if I delivered vaginally. But I think its the dad's decision if he wants to cut it or not

He may change his mind in the moment. DH was adamant that he didn't want to look down there when E was being born, but he got so caught up in the moment and the cool factor of it all that he looked and was cheering on our progress.

DH cut the cord, he really wanted to.

Mine has no desire to. I could care less if he wants to when the time comes; it's his decision

I asked him to and he wasn't sure he wanted to but agreed with me that he'd rather cut it and wish he hadn't than not cut it and wish he had. He wasn't allowed to do the first cut because they had to have NICU nurses check her out due to meconium in my water but they let him do a ceremonial cut.

Mine feels incredibly squeamish about it. I'm not going to pressure him into anything.

My husband just had no interest. He was VERY into my labor and was all over the baby when he was born, but he just felt no interest in the cord. He said it was the doctor's realm and he didn't want to mess with it.
I think the next baby will be the same...
I cared at first but when the time came, I totally didn't care! I just wanted it cut so I could BF my baby ASAP! -
No, mine didn't have any interest in cutting the cord. My mom actually cut it, and then a few minutes later my FIL was given the opportunity to trim it down.

My DH doesn't have any interest and that's fine with me... I think it's all kind of gross, I wouldn't want to cut it myself haha

Wow! I have no idea that so many also think that it is gross. I thought that mine was just being a wimp. haha

@sorrycharlie: Yeah my DH always told me he wasn't going to watch her birth and I noticed halfway through pushing that he was watching every time I pushed.

My DH didn't. The attending doctor and nurses offered it to him. He was in too much shock at the moment to do it. One of the nurses had to remind him to get the camera out and start taking pictures.

We haven't had the baby yet but he absolutely will cut the cord. He is actually looking forward to it!

We hadn't really discussed it but my OB handed him the scissors and had him cut the cord. Afterward he said he would have really rather not but didn't know how to decline.

I couldn't answer because when I had DD, DH refused to do it but when I had DS my OB didn't give him an option and made him do it.

@Smurfette: Ick I wouldn't want to do it!!! Think about it, you're taking scissors to something that is attached physically to the two most important people in your life.
No way, man. If he doesn't want to do it, I support him!

My husband didn't want to cut the cord; the OB asked him before, and then again right before she cut the cord in case he changed his mind. He still didn't want to and I didn't care who cut the cord.

We were just talking about this last night. DH cut the cord, but really disliked doing it and won't do it for future babies. He said it grossed him out and he felt uncomfortable doing it.

@JoJoGirl: Good point! I already IM'd him and told him he was off the hook if he doesn't want to do it. I guess I had the movies stuck in my head and thought the husbands always did it.

My DH kept saying he didn't want to cut the cord too. Our labor nurse asked him why not, and he thought it would determine what DS's belly button looked like. She assured him that wasn't the case, so he wound up making the cut!

My husband said early on in my pregnancy that he didn't want to cut the cord (blood and guts grosses him out) and it wasn't really that important to me. I didn't give it another thought until we were in the hospital for delivery and my midwife asked him if he wanted to. He said he didn't, and everyone left it at that. When I was pushing, he changed his mind and said that he actually wanted to cut the cord (it was really a very sweet moment) and wouldn't you know, an hour later I was off for an emergency c-section. oh well! Maybe next time

My DH has said repeatedly cutting the cord is the doctor's job-sarcasm- in his comment. I think he's scared he might mess something up.

i also voted no, because i had a c-section. but he was fully planning on it(And to be honest, he would have done it if they would have let them after the c-section...he was even leaning over the paper wall to check things out)

He did. But I wouldn't have cared if he didn't.... I think it was a nice moment but not necessary.

I just asked my DH this the other day and I was surprised when he said that he wanted to. I told him it really didn't matter to me one way or the other (it doesn't). He tends to be kind of squeamish so I was surprised by his answer.

When my mom gave birth, the doctor asked my dad if he wanted to cut the cord, and my mom wanted to shout "Nooooo!!! Don't let him do it!!!" but he was all "Yeah, sounds fun!" My mom was the one worried about it, not my dad, haha!

I didn't vote but my husband had no interest in cutting the cord. He didn't with DD but got kinda pressured into it with DS. I don't think he was traumatized after DS, but he would've rather not done that.
ETA: I would have preferred him not to cut the cord either time ; it kinda weirds me out!

DH originally decided he didn't want to do it it, but in the moment he was so excited to. My doctor didn't really give him a choice, just thrust the scissors at him and told him cut here.

I honestly don't know if mine did or not - I keep forgetting to ask him! I know he planned to, so I'm assuming he did, but honestly everything was such a blur after she was born that I wasn't paying attention. I was so overwhelmed with having just given birth and finding out it was a girl (we didn't know ahead of time), and I was crying and shaking, etc. I was hardly paying attention to what was going on. So, if he doesn't want to cut it, I wouldn't pressure him.

DH didn't get to because there was an emergency with DS's birth.
If he didn't want to, that was fine. I told him I'd let him decide while we were there. -
For what it's worth, my husband did NOT want to watch the baby come out. Then in the moment, my midwife said hey, come her and see this, it's amazing! And he did and was so blown away. Yours might very well change his mind in the moment.

DH was ambivalent so he'd say no if you asked him. But in the end when they asked him if he wanted to, he said yes immediately and did it.

I honestly can't remember either! I don't think he did. Once baby A was born, the OB and midwife were so focused on making sure baby B didn't flip, that I'm pretty sure the OB just snipped quickly. In that moment, it was way more important to make sure B would come out vaginally than for him to cut the cord. Plus, I think he was busy taking pictures, lol.
