@Astro Bee: my stomach is in knots over this. What a terrible tragedy. I can't even begin to imagine the pain that family is feeling.

This is so so sad

This is so sad. I don't want to make any judgments about this specific center, without more details, but i have a relative who inspects daycare centers for a living and she has a lot of really, really horrifying stories about the lower quality ones (like really, really bad). There are a lot of centers out there with really poorly trained and poorly paid workers, I think you can never be too proactive about ensuring quality (of course, I understand that some parents given their financial situation have very few choices).

This kills me. I have a 13 month old also. I can't even imagine.

Children can choke any time, even sitting at home in front of their parents. It's not a daycare issue or lack of good care. A neighborhood boy choked on food at the playground with his parents a few months ago. I hate how stories like this make people like daycare care is substandard.

I simply cannot imagine. Heartbreaking. Prayers for that poor family.
As far as the center. You just never know. Being up to date on First Aid and CPR....they tried to revive him but there is no remarks about trying to dislodge the food. My quals are expired (I need to get on that) but last I took infant/Child/Adult CPR and First aid they went over how to position a child and dislodge the food.
