I am researching daycares for this fall when I go to school. It seems that most daycares provide food for the kids. A lot of them have sample menus on their websites, and looking over them I'm a little irked.
Now I don't want to be "that mom" that never let's her kid have a few fun foods- but these centers are feeding kids what I view as unhealthy foods on a daily basis.
- breakfasts: waffles, pancakes, bagels, toast, cinnamon rolls
-lunch: mini pizza, corn dogs, noodle casseroles, Mac and cheese etc
Most of you know I eat pretty healthy- a modified paleo, but I will still let my kid indulge on special occasions. I don't feed C grains and avoid them myself and we eat next to no sugar, and C has never had any. I would be more okay with a center servings grains if it were whole-wheat, but it's not. And obviously all the breakfast foods have sugar.
Am I being crazy here or does anyone else have the same concerns? Would it be nuts to pack my kid his own lunch? And eventually he'd want what the other kids eat, right?!
I'm not sure what to do because what my child eats is really important to me!
