We switched to public school. We didn't have any financial savings as the 4's program requires tuition. It really helped DD get to learn the routine and expectations. She loves the program and being in "school". The transition to Kinder is going to be really easy on her.

I'm curious about this too. DS1 is on the waiting list for a public preschool program but he's so happy at his current daycare, and DS2 just started there too. I think at the moment I'm inclined to just keep him where he is out of convenience, and I don't underestimate convenience - I can only imagine the impact on our daily lives with two separate dropoffs/pickups/afterschool programs etc. But then again I'm lazy.

I will keep dd (3) in her current preschool/daycare. The preschool at the public school is tuition based, meaning anyone can enroll. So she wouldn't necessarily meet anyone that she'd go to elementary school with. Also we have lo2 at the same daycare so another issue is convenience. Next year she'll be eligible for tk which is considered public school (first year of 2 year kindergarten) so we'll make the move then

DD1 is turning 4 this month. If we get into the public UPK morning program she will start that in the fall. It's only a half day so DH will drop DD1 off in the morning and I will drop DD2 off at daycare. Then after the morning session my daycare has a bus (with car seat installed!) that will pick up and take kids to daycare. Then we will pick up both from daycare after work. When she starts K she will go to daycare for aftercare as well. At least until DD2 starts K.

I really struggled with this because I wasn't sure if going to her elementary for UPK then getting on a bus to daycare would be too much for her at 4. I polled HB too. Between talking to DH and parent experiences on here, we felt it would be advantageous to have her acclimated to her school a year early. She'll get to form friendships a year earlier with kids she'll be spending the next 6 years with! She'll be familiar with the school, etc. I also joined the PTA Facebook group of our school and the UPK teacher even hopped on! All the parent experiences on there really made me feel comfortable about our decision.

And the cost savings will be awesome as well!

We will be switching to public pre-k if we get in. (It's a lottery). Our current daycare busses kids from there for after school care and it will still be cheaper even with after school care. And drop offs will be fine since it is on my way to work and daycare for DS2 is in the way for DH.

For us it was easy. There's not really the concept of preschool here, so my son will go from daycare to the equivalent of kindergarten this fall.
