E had her first settling in session at nursery today! She loved it. Mummy may have had a little cry when she saw her painting with the big kids (1 year olds!).....! *blush*.
I came home with 15 forms to fill in and eight information sheets covering topics such as the absence policy and the menus. I know, right?! A bit much! I had to sign my mobile in and out of the building, too, and let them put it in the safe during my visit because it has a camera in it. I think the nursery manager might be a bit over the top!!!
But.... despite her obvious love of rules, red tape and paperwork, her grasp of the English language leaves a lot to be desired!! The paperwork is so badly written - switching tenses several times in a sentence, switching the pronouns used during a sentence - it is virtually incomprehensible in places!
For example:
"We ask you not to use a mobile phone inside the nursery, giving due regard to the nusery's safeguarding policy and I will also not contact staff members outside of nursery hours or become friends on social networking sites."
Who won't contact the nursery staff? Me? The nursery manager?? Huh??
It then goes on to say:
"This again is required for the safety of all children in our care and to maintain confidentiality at all times. We do ask for your cooperation in this matter and ask you to recognise that it is a disciplinary offence if a staff member is listed on such sites. Privacy settings do not always protect the staff member and it is not an assurance that the nursery will not become aware of the situation.".
Say what???! So is it an offence for them to be on social networking sites? If so, how is my cooperation required??! I have to sign to say I agree!! What am I agreeing to??!
All 15 forms are written like this! It's not just the appalling grammar, either.... One of the forms (a one page form in which I give my permission for them to take DD on day trips, even though they apparently seek permission prior to each trip as well), I have to complete DD's name and address three times (on a one-sided, one page form) and sign twice!
Would you say something? I'm tempted to rewrite it all for them because they clearly don't have anyone there with the skills do they?!!
