DD was fussy, whining and otherwise up a lot last night. She felt a bit warm but when I took her temp at 7am it was normal. After a longer than usual morning nap she felt warmer and was now 100.5, a low grade fever. I'm nursing her a ton to keep her comforted (she's very whiny and I'm guessing not feeling very well). After a short second nap she felt even warmer and now she's at a 101. I'm waiting for a call back from her pediatrician but any advice? She's clinging to me like a koala bear. I hate the helpless feeling when she's sick. =\

You can take of a layer of her clothing to cool her down. When my LO has a fever I leave her in just a diaper if the weather permits. It might be a virus or teething depending on her age -
@Mrsbells: She's just shy of 9 months. She's usually pretty active and plays non stop during her wake times but she's been clingy and tired. It's 3 and she already on her third nap of the day, which is odd for her. I'm also thinking it might be teething. The ped just called and said she's not worried yet but keep an eye on it. It just hurts to see her sick. =\ It's cold in NYC but the coop has not turned on the heat yet so I dressed her in thin layers - too chilly for just diaper unfortunately. How many days of low grade fever does it become a bigger concern?

Does she have a cold too, or just a fever? Our daughter had a fever accompanying a cold last week (her first fever), and it turned out she had developed an ear infection. It took about a day and a half for her fever to drop back down once she started antibiotics, so I was happy that our doctor diagnosed the ear infection right away.

@aprk: Thanks! DD's fever broke last night and so far she seems ok - hopefully it was just a 12 hour virus or teething.
@skibobrown: Good to hear your daughter is feeling better! DD didn't have any other symptoms besides the fever and she still nursed a ton plus was playful somewhat towards the end of the day. Her fever broke last night and she seems fine again today. I'm keeping an eye on her but hopefully whatever it was, it's gone. Did your daughter show signs of ear infection like ear pulling and such? I wonder how I would know.

I'm sorry you are going through this! We did at 9 months too, first time he had been sick, so I was pretty freaked out. In our case it was a lower fever the first day, and a much higher one for the next two, with no other symptoms other than absolute misery.
My pediatrician said as a first time parent not be shocked if he had a rash at the end of the fever, but we never saw one. He gave us information on fever reducing meds and when medication is warranted.
We just spent the weekend in the big bed cuddling, nursing, sleeping, and watching movies on the computer. It was a huge relief to have the fever break. Hope your little one feels better soon!

@lemondrop: Having a sick kid is so not fun - the worrying is the worst! When did your ped recommend fever reducer? DD's fever was 101.3 at its highest and I gave her some right before bedtime. During the day I just monitored her and let the fever work itself out. Just wondering what other moms do.

He felt that Tylenol/Ibuprofen gets used more than necessary- so he said around 104 or if he was really fussy and uncomfortable. I found that he felt worse around noon and again before bed so I did a dose at each of those times since the fever was staying steady and like you, I figured the fever needed to do it's job the rest of the time.
I think a good night's rest is so big on helping them get better, so I slept with him on our guest bed and let him nurse on demand.

@lemondrop: My ped feels the same way about meds and said unless DD was super uncomfortable he preferred to let the fever do its job. It's so hard to resist it because its so ingrained in our lives - meds meds meds. I agree rest was the most important! I nursed her on demand all day and night, which ended up being 1-1.5 hours during the day and 2-3 hours at night. Exhausting but it broke and she's back to herself thank goodness.
@MungBean: Thanks! Yea seeing helpless little them and not being able to do much is crappy. It's a good thing babies heal fairly quickly. She bounced back fast! I know when I'm sick it takes me a few days to bounce back.
