If you have a health issue you are dealing with and work full time in the office, do you have work guilt? Or do you feel like a bad employee? What helps you feel better?

I was out of work on vacation all last week. I am dealing with a health issue right now that has knocked me off my feet--out sick on Monday, went to work on Tuesday but was still no good, went to work today and left early. LOs school called and said they think she has an ear infection which means we will probably have to take her to the doctor tomorrow. DH and I always battle about who takes days off because he's a teacher and hates taking days off.

My supervisor is understanding and I can work from home but I feel like a bad employee...especially because this health issue is something that will be chronic until my doctor and I can get a handle on it.

Seriously my first thought after I got off the phone with her school was to say "Ok, I quit." I have the days to take off but my job is very deadline oriented so the work still has to get done.

I feel like this is going to hurt my career and position within my organization and it makes me feel like I suck at being a good employee.

I'm thinking about having a talk with my supervisor and head of our department (just told my supervisor on Monday) but I'm still worried about my reputation.

Advice? Suggestions?
