my 14 month old still cries at diaper changes. Luckily he quit running away at some point. I don't remember when. For some reason he doesn't cry when DH changes him. Not fair.

Oh man this doesn't sound fun...when did it start? M is still ok with diaper changes, but she's only 6 months old.

My friends have a 2 year old that is impossible to change... unless he's watching a video on their phone. Not looking forward to this!

LO has always hated. HATED. having his diaper changed or having clothes put on. He also hates shoes, getting his face or hands wiped, and ESPECIALLY his nose cleaned.

Someone on the boards mentioned singing during these times, so I gave it a try. And it WORKS! He doesn't cry AT ALL now, and gives me big huge grins instead. The second I stop singing the wailing continues. Seriously, I am gonna need some more songs. I am still dumbfounded every time it works. The ABC song and Wheels on the Bus have changed. my. life.

It's worth a try

We are suffering with this as well. No solution, just commiseration! I have sent LO to daycare in messy and stained clothes (hot pink amoxicillin all over the front), because I didn't have the energy to wrestle through an outfit change at 7am.

For some reason J likes holding onto desitin tube and it gives me a minute to do the change. Its a "special" toy given only during diaper change time. Also nanny holds LO on her lap for diaper change and that has some success as well.

My LO loves to twist and it drives me batty. She is too little to understand me... I sing, I dance, I go nutty... I need like a light and dancing song show mobile playing over my head or something I swear!

Still a struggle at 2!

When they're potty trained? LOL, sorry no real advice. My 22 month old still gives me a hard time sometimes.

@shopaholic: It really does seem like E and K have a similar temperament! It never worked to pin down E because she will fight me and won't let up, so I never tried it long. What works for us is distraction. I give her something she's not supposed to have and it only works once or twice. I can't give her the same thing over and over.

Pearls and other jewelry, closed vitamin bottles, a little clock, figurines, and when all else fails, wipes work for us. I also have to wait until she's a little calmer before I change her. At public bathrooms, TP works, or the disposable liners since they make noise.

Ends at potty training!

But seriously, I can put on my stern voice and it shocks her into staying still when other distractions aren't working.
