Hey! So is the diaper genie worth the money? Is it a must have? Does it really work?
Thanks! I will be a FTM due in October and I'm trying to decipher the must haves.

Nay! We got one and have used it maybe twice. It was easier for us to just use a trash can and empty it when it got stinky.

I have twins and for me YES.
Let me share this: I wanted the DEKOR. I got the DEKOR and thought it was the most wonderful thing bc it held a ton of diapers. Well, once they [child] start solids it DOES NOT CONTAIN THE ODOR. We got rid of it and got the Arm & Hammer Munchkin diaper pail, its great but sadly for us it doesn't hold a lot of diapers.
At the moment we have the Diaper Genie upstairs in the girls bedroom and the Arm & Hammer pail in our downstairs office changing station!
My vote = YES the diaper genie, while not the prettiest, is in fact the one that gets the job best done!!!

Yay! Seems to be one of those things that just really depends on the person, but for me it was way more simple/easy/less smelly than any of the other methods of getting rid of diapers. Ours broke after like a year, and when we didn't buy a new one right away DH and I really missed having it!

We have the Arm & Hammer Munchkin diaper pail. I think I replace the bag twice per week now that our LO is three months old. I'm really glad we got it. It contains the odor and generally makes things easier.

I like that it containers the odour. We started out using a regular garbage, which was fine, but once he was eating real food it wasn't enough and his room was starting to smell.

I really wasn't so sure I wanted one so I got one super cheap at a consignment sale. I'm glad I did. I think it's the best thing for our nursery. When we change diapers downstairs we just throw it in the regular trash, but it gets taken out pretty frequently. I would go with yes, but see if you can get it cheap since they are everywhere! (or free I guess if someone gifts it)

Yay for me. We ran out of refills this weekend when my parents came to babysit. I didn't think they would care at all because they are very minimalist types. To my surprise they ran out and bought us refills. I guess they like it even more than we do.
On the plus side, now that LO is a toddler and getting into everything I like knowing she can't just open the lid and grab a poopy diaper while I'm in the other room. I don't know if that's a legit fear for lidded trash cans.

It's a nay for me. I think they still stink so prefer to put diapers in grocery bags and straight outside to the trash.

Big yes. The whole eating solids and toddler poop phase are just way too stinky and I'm too lazy to put her diapers in a bag to go dump in the garbage multiple times a day--my kid poops 3-4x a day!

We love ours! It definitely doesn't last as long between refills now that J is almost one but it works great and lasts forever with newborns. We'll be getting another one for baby #2.
