Oh gosh, Baby Boy has got the stinkiest diapers ever right now and the diaper pail is NOT containing the stink. I feel like his room has toxic air right now!! Anyone have a brilliant solution short of buying a new pail? I don't really feel like investing money to baby gear since he is our last...

I've actually never used one - just throw everything away in the regular pail and throw out frequently. And once things are more solid, dispose what I can down the toilet. Never had a problem

I just have a regular garbage can. I throw the solid poop in the toilet when I can. I also package stinky diapers in lightly scented dog poo bags and then tie them and put them in the garbage (sounds like a pain, but it takes two seconds). And sometimes I sprinkle baking soda in there if its getting stinky. I throw all the garbage out once a week.

@travellingbee: I feel like it helps! Baking soda is supposed to absorb odours...according to the box anyway! I keep a box behind my cat litter box and used to have one in the fridge.

Agree with PP, I flush what I can and I use scented bags that I tie them up in. Sassy makes some that I got on diapers.com. They're great!

For me it's mostly the wave that hits me when I open the pail to put a diaper in, so for stinky one I put it in a baggy first too. I still change DD's (21 mo) poopy diapers on her changing pad on her dresser so I can't really run off to dump it in the toilet.

I buy the multi pack rolls of scented dog poo bags. Perfect size, and they contain the stank.
I know you said you don't want to spend money, but I've seen the ubbi on sale recently on amazon. I'd also look at amazon warehouse. That is money I would spend over and over and over. Once we are finished using it for the baby I plan to use it for the cat litter. it uses regular garbage bags (or anything really). -
Are you using a plastic pail? I feel like plastic holds onto scents more than metal cans.

We only put wet diapers in the pail (we use a regular lidded trash can). If there is poop we put the diaper in the kitchen trash, which goes out every night.

Dump the poop in the toilet. It cuts wayyyyy down on the smell. We cloth diaper mostly and you have to dump solid poop, but we do it for disposables too and it's so much nicer.
