I'm just kind of over it. We're not having any problems with our cloth diapers, I just don't want to wash them or dump poop anymore, even though LO poops only once a day or once every other day. Did anyone quit cloth late? Like after 18 months?

I was tempted to switch after we used disposables on our last vacation...I'm still CDing but I dread laundry.
2 in cloth = laundry for days.

We just ditched when we started potty training. I couldn't find any good cloth pull ups.

I'm tempted due to unsolvable stink issues. It's driving me crazy. But I doubt I will. The savings is too important to us.

@Beyond2: Late in the game I ended up throwing out my BG inserts due to stink and leaks. I just replaced with some different inserts (still not cheap, but worth it to stick with it for a couple more months).

@T.H.O.U.: Interesting! All of our diapers are bumgenius and it seems no matter what I do I just can't get rid of the stink. What did you replace them with?
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Beyond2: I loved the Thirsties inserts. Its a snap together insert with one part microfiber (fast absorbing, but can't hold much) and a layer of hemp (absorbs a lot, but not quickly). I love that they separated so they dried really fast.

@Beyond2: I also loved my organic flip tri-folds (held a ton). I used it to stuff my BG 4.0 pockets. I was also looking into charcoal inserts.
I think its just the BG brand microfiber because I had no issues with my Charlie Banana microfiber inserts.

I've been going through a funk lately of really dreading the laundry. I think it might be the busy-ness of the holidays and traveling - it's so hard to stick to my wash cycle! Trying to stick with it though... I would never hear the end of it from the IL's if I ever decided to quit!

I'm only 6 months into CD and while I'm not quite ready to give up, the washing is wearing on me. I'm going to try to stretch to every three days instead of every other. I'm also a bit scared of the poop factor! We've EBF until just recently and I'm dreading the change.
@T.H.O.U.: Thanks for the info on the inserts. We actually deal with leaks overnight sometimes and have stuffed an additional bamboo liner in with our BGs, but it still doesn't always do the trick.

Around 8 months I switched to flushable inserts full time. My LO was a heavy soiler and the flushables never leaked. I was tired of all the laundry and flushables were super easy
pear / 1986 posts
@sandy: What kind of flushables did you use? I'm definitely considering those now that we are moving toward solids more routinely.

Using BumGenius and at 8 months we are now starting to have problems with stink.
if anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them!

@Dagny: That's about when our problems started too
I've tried everything I can. Stripping, bleach, dawn, vinegar, bumgenius detergent, tide detergent, using more detergent, using less detergent, bac out, washing more often, sunning, using the dryer, an extra rinse (3 total), even getting a water softener hooked up (although we had been wanting this anyways)! At almost 15 months though we're still dealing with stink issues. I think I'll take @T.H.O.U. advice though and check out new liners. I planned to use these diapers for future kids so it'd be worth the investment.

@GreenThumb: I like solid foods better than EBF poops!! 99% of the time they just plop off into the toilet
@Dagny: What detergent are you using? My stink problem stopped when I switched detergent. I was using Rockin Green, then switch to Tide Ultra and wished I'd done so sooner!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Beyond2: @Dagny: Thats around when I noticed the issues with my BG and nothing I did would fix it (we have hard water but I accounted for that). In the end I can only assume the BG inserts are just cheap because my other inserts were fine (thirstie, organic cotton, and CB microfiber).

@GreenThumb: I have gdiapers and was doing gcloth but then switched to the gfill flushables and LOVED them from months 8 through 24 months. We just potty trained and I LOVE not changing diapers!
ETA: she is in a diaper for naps and bedtime and I'm just using up our last pack of flushables. I was getting them through amazon subscribe and save
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@GreenThumb: We use Grovia diaper liners and they are a godsend! Especially for the icky starting-solids-poo that doesn't plop off.. we just flush the poo in the liner and our diapers almost never even have poo on them anymore.

@T.H.O.U.: @Beyond2: @Dagny: BG microfiber inserts are the worst! I ended up switching totally to cotton diapers only. I feel like they're easier to clean, and they're nicer to LO's booty.
Maybe buying diapers will be incentive for us to try potty training earlier! I think DH will give me a hard time about it, but he certainly prefers disposables.
apricot / 461 posts
@BEYOND2 - oh boy, you really tried everything! That is dedication
perhaps I should just accept the stink until it becomes unbearable, haha!
@SWURLYGURL- I'm using CountrySave. I've loved it so far, but maybe I'll need to explore other options.

As for us, I'm close to quitting. We've been battling a reoccuring diaper rash/yeast infection since EARLY JULY! I've done everything I can think of but it keeps coming back whenever he's in the cloth.
pomegranate / 3595 posts
@GreenThumb: we only wash every three days and it has worked out well. We do disposables at night too to stretch the stash and because I don't have time to deal with leaks!

We kind of did. LO is 17 months and we were having some BG stink issues. While I was stripping them he was in sposies and then we went on vacation and since we've been back I have been sending sposies to childcare and using cloth Fri-Sun when I am home. I'm ok with it. It is way less work - only one diaper wash a week on Sunday night!
For #2 I'll prob buy cotton inserts though - I really dislike the microfiber.
nectarine / 2132 posts
@lovehoneybee: this is exactly why we quit (but at 7ish months.) plus, we just got too comfortable using the disposables while battling the yeast infection.
i'm on the fence about trying again if/when we have another lo...

@Weagle: what cotton diapers do you use? Only the Elementals? I hate the microfiber!
coconut / 8498 posts
@autumnlove: Elementals, Blueberry Simplex, GMD prefolds/fitteds, and Babee Greens Fitteds. Elementals 95% of the time though. AIOs are just too easy for toddlers that don't want to stay still on the changing table.

Me! My daughter has been increasing her 'potty awareness' for the last 6 months or so (26 months now). Early in that process she got very aware of the feeling of wetness with cloth, and started refusing them. I didn't push it because I was sick of them too. We'll do it again for another baby, but man, those solids poops are so gross. I do not miss that.
pear / 1986 posts
@MamaCate: Glad to hear 3 days worked out for you. We seem to be ok with having enough dipes, I just may need more cloth wipes!
@JoJoGirl: I just told my SO about the liners last night and he was all for it. DD is getting that awful sticky poo after starting solids for about a week, so I think liners might be the way to go for us and soon!
@sandy: Thanks for the suggestion. And congrats on potty training!!
@swurlygurl: I'm hoping we get to the solid poo soon. We are still in the gross sticky stage and it is awful!
coconut / 8498 posts
@GreenThumb: The solids poop doesn't always solidify forever. It may be "ploppable" for a while, but it's normal for it to return to a softer state. Just a heads up... I didn't realize that for a while.
