For some reason, our OB never asked my DH if he wanted to cut the cord and I never bothered asking him. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I had a c-section or because we banked his cord blood? I'm definitely going to ask the next time we see him.
Did anyone in your family cut your baby's umbilical cord?

DH cut the cord.. I didn't see him doing it though. The first few minutes after my LO was born is all a blur..

They wouldn't have let your DH cut the umbilical cord due to the c-section, in order to cut the cord, you need to be in the sterile field, and that is a big no-no if you aren't scrubbed in and wearing a sterile gown and gloves.

No, the cord was wrapped around LO's neck twice so DH could not cut it. =(

@msmini: Oh I see! That's probably why then. DH didn't complain or feel like he missed out on anything so we didn't bother asking about it. I was just curious why our OB didn't mention it.

My husband had no desire to cut the cord. Our midwife did it. Out of curiosity: Does anyone know how that tradition started? It seems sort of strange when you think about it... I assume it's just a way to involve dad.

I asked my husband if he would like to do that, he had no interest in it whatsoever. According to him, that didn't make him feel like he participated in the birth any less.

My husband cut the cord and afterwards he said he would have rather not but my OB put the scissors in his hand and didn't really ask.

DH cut it. We had talked dome about it before but the doc didn't give it a second thought. He was all, "Come here, Dad!" Lol.

Nope, c-sec here. My hubby did ask the dr if she wanted him to first assist. What a punk.

I had a section & was under general anesthesia, so husbone wasn't even in the or with me. but he did for sure want to cut the cord if he was going to be able to. next baby, hopefully

@Andrea: Same thing happened to us (well, the cord was only wrapped around once, but still).
DH was pretty disappointed, too. He said from the beginning he wanted to cut the cord. In the end we're lucky that everything turned out ok though! (They cut the chord quickly before his shoulders were even out)

The doctor cut DD's cord; but DH cut DS's cord. Honestly, it wierded me out a bit afterward, but in the moment, it all happended so fast that neither of us had time to really think about it.
