Yes, I got the question from my in-laws and my grandparents who are all old fashioned and think you shouldn't nurse past 6 months old. I would answer honestly, since I didn't want them to think I was ashamed that I was still nursing. I figured I could help educate them about the benefits of breastfeeding beyond what they were used to.

@aprild: good job! I think a lot of people just don't know the current trends/ recommendations. I had one lady that brought it up and I think she was trying to be nice but said, "well, I be it saves a lot of money on milk and stuff." I was like, "huh, never thought about it like that..." (because that has nothing to do with it!)

All. The. Time. My MIL literally lives across 5 he street and would ask like once a week. She never breastfed & around 12 months I said something about going until 2 & she said "oh no. She doesn't need to be doing THAT, until she's two." Hmm, I wasn't asking your opinion, I was juts going with the flow of the conversation. She ended up dropping all but one session by 14.5 months & I helped her drop the last one but MIL did just ask the other day. I don't know why she cares so freaking much. It's none of her business.

Yes, people ask now that LO is past 12 months. Actually, they usually say something like "you're done with nursing, right?" and are surprised when I say no. They don't really judge though, I think they just make assumptions and are curious.

Still dry-nursing Miss A at 26 months and 25 weeks pregnant and I do wonder what the in laws are going to think when we stay with them over the holidays...

Yes! Everyone thinks I'm crazy for nursing a 9 month old while pregnant. I mean if I wasn't pregnant, I would still be nursing.

I bf'd my daughter until she was 2. My father continually asked me when i was going to feed her "real food". My daughter's father and I were friends but never married. When my daughter turned almost 1, he married. Him and his wife constantly asked when i would stop nursing because my daughter pulled at their shirt and also it was hard for them to put her to sleep. Honestly every time anyone asked i wanted to smack them, but cooler heads prevailed and i said, I'm not sure maybe when she can talk and tell me she's done?!?? Ha ha. Seriously, i would just brush them off and eventually they stopped asking.

The in laws ask all the time. SIL and cousin in law (is that a thing?) were pregnant and due around the same time as me and were having a conversation about how it's "unnatural" to breastfeed past 3 months and babies don't need the milk so they'll do it for three months and stop. Ugh. Whatever. They know I breastfed LO until 18 months and plan to do the same this time around if possible. My mom asked once why I was still breastfeeding at a year old and I told her it's the new recommendation, she said we weren't breastfed that long and we turned out fine...I told her that it doesn't bother me to do it but just because she made different decisions doesn't mean I have to. She dropped it.

I get some comments from my DH's family. While BF is perfectly acceptable where he is from, most women go back to work when the baby is between 4-6 months. Among the women I know, everyone stops nursing at that point and switches to formula (no idea if pumping at work is big in France). Anyways, my ILs and my BIL often make comments "oh, you're still nursing" or "how long are you going to nurse for". We are going to visit them next week, so I'm prepared for comments about nursing my 1 yo (although, we are technically in the process of weaning).

Yes. LO is nearly 21m and I cite the WHO recommendation in a tone that conveys it's not up for debate.

Yup, I was asked with J and have with L now too. My answer was and is that "cows milk isn't recommended until after 12 months at which point I would introduce it gradually." That usually shuts them up but if they bring up formula I just say "I'm hoping to not have to use formula"

People are always asking me and sometimes I tell them the truth which is that we dont have a plan i'm just following Wesley's lead. Other time I get sarcastic and tell them we will quit when he leaves for college.
