We actively TTC for DS#1 a few months after I went off the pill.
We tried NTNP for a month or two, before active TTC for DS#2.
We're not sure about #3, so I told DH I'd rather take a see what happens approach for our last.

Yes for both. Winging it isn't a great plan since I have endometriosis and mthfr.

Lucked out with #1 and vaguely guessed when I ovulated and got pregnant first cycle. So I guess kind of?
The second pregnancy I read TCOYF and actively tried for three cycles before getting a bfp. Charted, used opk's, used Conceive Plus - all that stuff.

Yes. Charting BBT, OPKs, preseed, mucinex...
So far for #2 I'm just using OPKs.

Yea- read tcoyf and temped/ charted for C. Winging it isn't my strong suit.
I hope to be more laid back when we try for #2, but we'll see. It depends how regular I am by then I guess. (Just got first pp period after 19 months).
clementine / 927 posts
Yes. But only using an app on my phone since my periods used to be like clockwork. No charting or temping.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
No. Both times it happened on the day we pulled the goalie. Very strange.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
For #1, we did for 13 months. For #2, I had just gotten my period back (11 months pp) and I was charting to see what my cycles would look like. We were avoiding, but we had an ooops right around ovulation and now I'm 19 weeks pregnant.
I was seriously shocked it took literally one time because our first LO took much longer!
cantaloupe / 6634 posts
Yes for all three pregnancies. Though I just kept track of days on FF and used CBE opks.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
Yep! Got off the pill and charted for 6 months before we pulled the goalie.

For #1 we didn't use OPKs or chart but did have sex around ovulation time a lot (easier when you dont have one kid yet, lol.) Conceived on the first try. For #2 I never got back on bc, but we used condoms and pull n pray. Then we ntnp several months and actively ttc with OPKs for 7 cycles.

I'm too nutty to wing it. I tried NTNP with both girls but gave into hardcore TTC by month two.

DS was a surprise. We tried actively for DD. Last pregnancy (miscarriage) was surprise.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
No. Both my pregnancies (latest was a cp) have been happy accidents.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
#1 was a surprise, ntnp/pull n pray for #2 and TTC for LO 3.

I went off bc knowing I'd want to start trying in about a year. 6 months in we started ntnp, 4 months after that we were pregnant I think I would find it too stressful to chart things and actively ttc. But the timing of our first meant wedding, house purchase and baby all in one year! So maybe a bit more planning would have been smart...

Both of my kids were surprises! We won't actively TTC in the future, either - just not our style.

Kind of depends on what you call actively TTC with our first pregnancy. I wasn't using OPK's, but I knew I had a very regular cycle and could usually pinpoint O based on symptoms. However, DH was working crazy hours so we didn't actually manage to DTD more than once even close to my fertile window. Somehow got lucky anyway.
Second and third pregnancies I was using OPK's and making a concerted effort to time things well, so definitely actively TTC.
Fourth pregnancy we had planned to wait another month so we wouldn't have to reschedule a cruise we had booked (leave in 2 weeks! originally supposed to be another 6), but DH decided not to pull out once, and of course it was the day I got a positive OPK (he didn't know that). I was ready to start trying sooner, so I didn't mind. But I definitely don't consider that actively trying!

We pulled the goalie before DD1 so we knew it was a possibility, but we were expecting it to take a couple months rather than getting pregnant 3 weeks after stopping the pill.
We tried for #2 and got pregnant our first cycle. (Aka, I think I'm ovulating....let's do it!)
#3 completely and totally blindsided us.

#1 was a happy accident on our honeymoon. #2 was a very wanted adoptive baby. MC was unplanned baby. Chemicals were while trying. Theo was completely unplanned both by us and birth family. Guess I should stop trying to plan my life and just let it unfold the way it's supposed to

I purposefully went off birth control but never charted or kept track of anything. We conceived within 2 months, which was a surprise to us both how quickly it happened!
pomegranate / 3192 posts
Not really, I kept track of my cycles in fertility friend so I knew around when I usually ovulated, but I never used opk's or anything. We just winged it and have been really lucky!!
grapefruit / 4823 posts
No, not for either. With #1, we were NTNP and #2 was a complete and total surprise!
persimmon / 1436 posts
DD: no. It was about a year of NTNP but we were young and newlyweds so no rush.
This time around (2.5 years later): Yes. I got pregnant the first cycle TTC with temping and OPKs but miscarried. Got pregnant again first cycle (just used OPKS this time) after being cleared by the doc and am almost 6 weeks.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
Yes. Charted, preseed and OPKs for first. For 2nd, all of the above plus IF work up, clomid, IUI, progesterone etc. Sigh.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
Yes. Laparoscopic surgery, charting, opks, and Clomid for #1 and same aside from the surgery for #2.
persimmon / 1095 posts
Yes, but only planned for two weeks before my very regular cycle. Pregnant after 4 months.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
Yes for all. And I wish we could be so lucky to get a non-trying baby!
