I kind of meant to last time but never did, and felt bad about it since I generally had such a good experience. So I'd like to bring something for the midwives and nurses when I have this baby, but not really sure what. Due mid December so they will probably be overflowing with sweets already...

No. Didn't even think about it. This whole idea is crazy for me. 1. You have to plan in advance for something you don't know when it is going to happen.
2. You expect to want to carry something into the hospital with you while you are having massive contractions and that something is not your pillow or your toothbrush, it's a gift for the nurses?Nope. lol

I didn't even think about it; and I loved most of the nurses I had SO much too! I wish I took down their full names so I could send them something after!

I had intended to, but never did. I did, however, send a letter to the nurse manager about 2 of my L&D nurses because they were absolutely phenomenal. She copied my letter and put it in their permanent files. If you have a really great experience, I would recommend that. Nurses get so little recognition for the hard work they do!

There are a billion fast casual restaurants near our hospital. Once my epidural was in, I sent my DH out to Panera (5 min walk) to buy bagels and cream cheese for the L&D staff. They were appreciative. I also had him buy bagels for the mother baby day shift and dessert for the night shift. (I'm a nurse and know that nurses do appreciate this. Purchased food, not homemade though. No one ever eats homemade food)

Nope. I didn't even realize I was in labor with my first, so when the doctor sent me to the hospital, I had nothing with me (including my cell phone!). My water broke early with my second too, so I hadn't gotten anything together for the nurses. It's a nice thing to do, but definitely not necessary.

no. i thanked them a million times while i was there, but didn't go the extra step of getting them gifts.

I had a scheduled C-section and brought in a huge basket of snack foods. Everything from Granola bars to cookies, to fruit and pretzels. I actually didn't bring it, though. I had my SIL bring it when she came to visit later that day. They put it on the nurses' station counter and they all came in to say thank you and that it was rare anyone did something so nice for them. So I was glad I made it since they took such great care of me.

@ChitownRo: I like that idea, especially since DH will be going home to get our toddler anyway.

@Foodnerd81: we did with the first (cookies) and I was glad they were ate, but they were gone immediately and I didn't have anything for the rest of my stay to give.
I intended to with my second, but it just didn't happen. I intended to send DH out to get something.

I did. Two baskets, one for labor and delivery and one for post partum. Snacks, gum, granola, healthy treats, ready to make oatmeal packs, just random stuff. Easter baskets were clearance at target. They seemed to appreciate it a lot. I purchase them about a month in advance and had my parents bring them to the hospital when they came to visit

With my first I kept a box of See's chocolates in my fridge and just made sure DH took it out when we left for the hospital. With my second, DH was driving back and forth between the hospital and house so I just had him pick-up some chocolates for the nurses when he had the chance.

DH bought coffee and bagels for the nurses when he got food for me since i gave birth to DD2 at 3 am. they loved it. we didn't do anything for DD1.
ETA: also brought leftover halloween candy when we visited DD2 in the nicu and they seemed perked up by that!

Yes, nice chocolates for the nursing staff.

Hell yea I did! I knew DH would be going home at least to shower so I had a box with good coffee and flavored creamers for the nurses
When E was in the nicu, I brought a tray of cookies for the staff as a thank you, when I came for a PP check up
Coffee is quite the popular choice where I work! Food always goes fast here! Especially fruit trays....

I didn't, but I really wish I did, because the nurses (and midwife) on duty were amazing and awesome! Afterward, we talked about sending some flowers, treats, or a donation to the L&D ward in LO's name, but we never did it. I regret it!

My husband picked up a bagel platter the morning after.
Later on we wrote a letter to the unit manager to thank the staff and name the specific nurses who were really stellar.

I ordered a giant cookie basket (from Cheryl's) the first morning in the hospital and it was delivered the next day.
They're individually wrapped treats so people can take them with, etc. -
Edible arrangements or a fruit basket?

@Foodnerd81: Yes we did! We made a fall snack mix with candy corn and a banana bread for the L and D nurses last week!

My in-laws brought them a bunch of doughnuts and bagels while I was in labor.

Yeah we totally meant to bring a gift to NICU nurses but kept forgetting and now it's been 15 months! Not sure it makes sense. We are the worst!

I baked cookies in preparation and kept them in the freezer (I did TONS of freezer cooking on preparation).... which is where they remained. I forgot to grab them the morning we left.

We did donuts with my first baby! They were so appreciative and thankful.

2 scheduled C sections, brought in 2 dozen bagels each time. The third I went into labor but DH brought bagels in the next day after going home to see our older kids. Believe me, they ALWAYS appreciate it. It is such a bonus to have someone bring food. Out of all 3 times we maybe had a couple of people total come in to tell us thank you (!) but I know they love it.

Yes! I had an induction so after my epi, DH got to go home for a few hours and I made sure that he grabbed two dozen associated cookies from Tiff's Treats for all the nurses!! Since I was with the same nurse twice within 3 7 hr rotations I was really happy I did!

Our nurses were awesome, especially our NICU nurses so I really wanted to!

Wow, did not realize this was a thing! I can sort of see if you are being induced or have a scheduled C-section. My labor was fast, unpredictable, and intense so this was totally not on my radar!

Nope, cause I went at 34 weeks and didn't even have a bag packed!

@DillonLion: Ha! I really meant to bring something in but could not get my act together to make it happen so I also jokingly say that my gift was that I was a super easy patient. Every time the nurses would stop by, they would ask if I needed anything and were always surprised when we would say we were good and commented on how easy we were. It made me wonder what I should been asking for!!!

I did and I honestly could not think of anything except chocolates so that's what I did. Having SO get bagels and/or donuts seems like a good idea! I looked at fruit baskets and I couldn't find anything in our budget but I didn't spend a lot of time looking either.

I was going to but never got the chance (went preterm). My mom did get a cake for the nicu staff while we were there, and I took them cookies with a thank you note last week.
