I've been looking up recommendations on things to pack in my hospital bag. A bunch of lists had makeup on it due to all the pictures that will be taken. Maybe it is because I pretty much never wear it but I was baffled by this. I'm not going to want to deal with washing it off while dealing with a newborn. Then I watched this super sweet birth video and it was clear the woman was wearing makeup and I kept thinking dang she looks great. Haha! Did you bring/ wear any?

LO1 - It was a scheduled induction so I got a mani the day of, and probably wore bb cream or something (I don't wear much make up to begin with). I'm pretty sure I packed makeup, and I might have re-applied bb cream and drew in brows or something...
LO2 - Nada, haha!

I used mascara and tinted moisturizer, because of pictures. Nothing extravagant.

Yes I sure did! I freshened up before pushing each time (checked my makeup, brushed my hair, etc.)

I put on make-up and washed / styled my hair before I went to the hospital for LO1 (scheduled c-section). Nothing crazy, just basics.
I had LO2 vaginally and didn't even bother packing make-up. Similar to you, make-up isn't part of my daily routine so I just couldn't imagine suddenly deciding to wear it at the hospital. I don't look quite as polished in my pictures with LO2 (mainly my hair), but I still love them.
@jape14 is my hero with this - she had a blowout with LO1 before her induction and I think put on make-up before pushing with both kids. She looks flawless in both post kids pictures, which says a lot considering during pushing she broke her tailbone with LO1.

My water broke on a Saturday afternoon right before we were about to run errands so I had just showered and done my hair/makeup. I used wipes to take it off later that night and I don't remember putting makeup on for the remainder of my stay at the hospital, I'm pretty sure I brought makeup with me, though.

#2 was a scheduled induction, so I put on my regular makeup before we left and had face wipes in my bag.
#1 we left for the hospital at like 2am and I went with whatever was left on my face from the day before
I didn't put on makeup in the hospital for either.

I had eyelash extensions put on a little before the birth. It was around $140 and lasted for 4 weeks. It completely made it look like I was wearing makeup in every picture even with no sleep.

This is a pic of me the day after the birth of our daughter. I only have the eyelash extensions, foundation, and lip gloss on. I'm insanely tired which you can sort of tell but look put together none the less.

And for comparison... day after my son's birth... no makeup, no eyelash extensions. Damn... wish I did the eyelash extensions!!! hahaha

My water broke at home so I took a quick shower and dried my hair and did put on a little makeup before I went to the hospital. I wear some every day so it wasn't out of the ordinary for me. But I just put on my "usual" - which is a little foundation, concealer, little eyeliner, mascara, blush. And the only reason I do that is because (1) I have terrible skin that looks horrible without a little cover up, and (2) I am super blonde with white eyelashes and I look like death without mascara. Lol. It takes me 5 minutes tops to do this. After my shower the day after delivery, I did put on a tiny bit of makeup just to feel human, but I didn't dry my hair or anything. I think just do what you feel comfortable with!

I threw some in my bag for the next day/before people came to visit. Nothing extravagant, the stuff I use for my normal, 5-min make up routine! Foundation, bronzer, blush, eyeliner

I think I packed some but didn’t use it at all. I did shower in the hospital but Def didn’t do my hair and makeup.
As for the birth- ha! I had unmedicated births both times. I remember trying to braid my hair before leaving for the hospital and not getting through it between contractions. I still treasure the pictures from after birth but I don’t look good at all.

thanks to @LBee: for calling me out! I had an induction with LO1 so I got a blowout the night before. With both kids I freshened up my makeup post-epidural, before pushing. I wear makeup daily, though, so I feel weird without it. On the other hand, I never blow dry my hair so I didn't even pack a hair dryer (or, let's be honest, a brush).

I brought a few things that I’d normally wear anyway (but nothing heavy or unnatural). Laura mercier Tinted moisturizer, mascara, a really
Light blush. And facial cleansing cloths because it was really nice to wipe the sweat and funk off my face often. Lip balms and my holy grail Fresh lip tint. Lots of mosurizer but nothing scented. -
Both of my deliveries were inductions so I was "done" before going. My first I went straight from work so I had my hair done and make up on from that, nothing special, just normal day stuff. For my second I got ready like normal and went in at 9 am.
Both of my inductions took over 48 hrs so by the end of it I didn't look that hot. LOL.. but I 100% took a shower as soon as I was allowed to in the recovery room. That's my personal preference, I just feel more like ME when I shower. Both babies were born around 9 pm, so I was moved to recovery room before midnight and the next morning I showered and applied my normal make up and hair both times.
So I guess to answer your questions yes.. I wore make up and I took it with me. Just my normal concealer/powder/eye shadow. I mean on a normal day it takes me less than 2 mins anyway.....

@oldschooolmama: absolutely not. that was the furthest thing from my mind. Plus i wouldnt want to be kissing my brand new baby with makeup on my face. Everyone is different I guess but for me hospital birth pictures dont need to be "picture perfect"

No makeup either time except for tinted lip balm bc I use that 24/7.
However, both times my nails were done, which I was glad about. It could be done in advance and it lasted despite long labors. Also your hands end up in a lot of pictures, holding baby.
I keep my daily makeup in my purse, and brought the purse to the hospital, so it was available theoretically.

@Foodnerd81: haha I tried that too! I braided my hair really tight a couple of days before my due date, and then I slept like that, and it was a mess and I had to undo it. And then work stuff happened and I didn't have time to fight my hair. And at the hospital, not one person had the decency to tell me that my hair is standing on end in all the pictures
So makeup wouldn't have made any difference. Nothing short of a buzz cut or a visit from a stylist would have made any difference.
At least I have OK photos from the "zero birthday" parties we threw when we were back home.

With #1 I already had on makeup and was at work when labor started, but it was a long and intense labor where I pushed on hands and knees a long time while throwing up each contraction so .... still looked a mess after. With #2 labor woke me up and I went without any makeup. Honestly both sets of pics (immediately after) I am glad to have but never share. For lots of reasons!
I absolutely packed makeup because I wear it every day so it makes me feel like myself. Nothing crazy but it makes a huge difference in my confidence and even though I’m still pretty swollen in later pics at the hospital, I felt good enough to share them, print them, etc.
But if you’re not someone who wears makeup daily I say just try to look like yourself!

Well, I never leave the house without make-up, and both deliveries were scheduled, so I had make-up on and my hair done, and I packed make-up and a hair dryer/straightener.
And those first pics with baby are some of my favorites, I'm glad I looked good!! (although the easy deliveries helped).I did do light make-up/hair on day 2 for visitors.

I brought make-up in my hospital bag for both births (one spontaneous and one induction - not for the births for afterwards while I was still in the hospital) but I'm one of those people who feel better with it on (definitely didn't take many photographs with me in them). I like feeling put together when life seems crazy, I guess.

Yes, mostly because I always wear makeup and wouldn't feel like "me" without it. I got sent to the hospital for an induction at my 40 week appointment, so I already had my usual makeup on for the day. The induction lasted over 50 hours during which I couldn't shower but I definitely did makeup touchups. After finally being allowed to shower hours after the birth, I definitely did a quick face of makeup and put some product in my hair - it is what made me feel like myself again.

My hair reaches past my butt, and one thing I'm doing differently with baby #3 is straightening it (I have to have scheduled c sections so I know when I'll be going in). I just didn't think about it with the other two, but if it was straightened really well, it wouldn't look too bad for at least two weeks with some dry shampoo here and there.
@ronjal7 You look amazing! One reason I hesitate to get extensions is ive heard you have to be careful in how you sleep at night so you don't rub them off. I have to sleep on my side due to a condition with my hips. Is side sleeping really a big no-no?

My water broke at night and we knew she was breech so had to get to the hospital ASAP for a c-section. She was also several weeks early, so I didn't even have a bag packed. Makeup was the last thing on my mind!

I was supposed to be induced and went into labor before I got the call. I had showered and done my hair that evening but don't remember putting on make up as I only wear a little usually. After 21 hours of labor and a c-section I did not care and don't remember putting any make up on before they took new born photos.
With #2 it will be a scheduled c-section so I will probably do my hair and put on a little make up before.

I really only wear tinted moisturizer on a daily basis, so I brought that. I think I also brought a concealer stick in case I looked awful after delivery, but it definitely wasn't something I was concerned about.
I'd mainly just make sure you have something to keep your hair out of your face.

@Hypatia: Thank you! I sleep on my side as well and had no issues. I think you can do lots of things to make them last longer, but I wasn't too concerned with how long they lasted after the birth (as that was what I wanted them for). I can't tell you how wonderful it was to get up and not have to do anything and look awake and put together.

I didn’t wear makeup for either delivery but I did bring make up and wore it after delivery and during the rest of my stay. I wear make up regularly though so it helped me feel more like myself.

Hahahahaha no. Too exhausted to care. If I was having a photographer come to the hospital, I think I would have. Thank goodness I didn’t. All the bloodvessels broke in my face and I don’t think any makeup would have helped that.

Yep. With my son I went into labour to showered and blow dryed and put some make up on (I always wear make up)
With my daughter it was a scheduled c section so they said no make up. I think I wore black cream and a bit of blush though. Then put mascara on after she arrived. I feel terrible without make up on 🤷♀️

Nope. But I very rarely wear makeup anyway, so if I had, it would have been out of character and I wouldn't have looked like myself. We had birth photography and I actually think I looked pretty good in the photos immediately post birth. My hair actually looks decent, people commented it looked like "rumpled sex hair" hahaha.

@Dahlia: same story for me except for the breech and c section. I still had to get into the hospital because I was gbs positive and my last minute bag packing was ridiculous... packed a bunch of pants but no shirts.

I went into labor at 2am, and labored at home until 3 pm the next day. By the time morning was there, I was in active enough labor the idea of doing hair or makeup in any form or fashion is completely baffling to me. He was born at 10 pm, and I looked like hell, but shit- I had birthed my son and it was real. My bestie had been getting ready for a final date night when her water broke and her pictures with her daughter she looks so beautiful. At first I was a little sad I didn’t have that, but it is what it is.

I had a scheduled c-section, woke up at 4 AM to take my last shower with the surgical scrub, french braided my hair and that was it. I didn't take any with my either. I don't think it would have helped with the fact that my face looked like the stay puft marshmallow man because of all the extra fluids I was retaining. Also my mother in law, who is a freaking professional photographer posted and tagged pictures of me without editing or asking.
When I finally get pregnant again, I might consider doing some makeup before I head in for my c-section, it's just not part of my daily routine really.

I wasn’t wearing makeup with either l&d but I did put some on later I think. Probably just tinted moisturizer and mascara. I do think I blow dried my hair with #2 afterward though! I’m not overly concerned as my family is our only visitors but my makeup routine also takes like 5 minutes total
