Did you cry when you dropped your LO off at daycare for the first time?
I tried to hold it together, but alas, I cried. Today was my son's first day - 1/2 day for practice - I go back to work Tuesday. I think it will get easier, especially because he did well and seemed so happy to see me when I picked him up : )

I know I'm in the minority - but I've never cried dropping LO off at daycare. She loves it there; her happiness to be with other children is obvious, she has fun during the day, and is excited to see me/my husband when we pick her up. She has never cried at dropoff either; so it's really not tough for me to do.

I know it's hard. 
It doesn't get easier, but you do get used to it, in time. And seeing that happy smiling face at the end of the day will totally make it worth it.
I cried the whole first month DD I had to return to work. And then cried for another month when we switched DD from a private nanny to daycare.

I thought I wouldn't... but when I got back to my car I started bawling. Luckily my bosses were totally understanding and let me go home early to pick him up that first week. Once that first week was over it got so much easier.

Luckily my first day of work is a Tuesday and my mom watches him Tuesdays so I won't have to worry about getting him out of the house on top of me getting out of the house....

@winniebee: Each day I cried a little less so that helped. That's so nice that your mom watches him. It will make it a little easier getting out of the house that day. It took me a couple weeks to get into a good routine and actually get out of the house on time.

I cried on the first two days mostly because LO was crying a lot and I felt terrible. But now, she LOVES daycare and is learning so much!

I've been fortunate enough to not be in that situation, but I know for a fact I would cry. The first time LO left me to go out for a few hours with DH I cried, lol.

@sweetkate: yes, it's particularly nice since she lives an hour away! She's really looking forward to that time with him, though.

I haven't been in the situation yet, but I know I will cry. When my husband and I went on vacation a few years ago we had to board our dog for a week and even though it was the loveliest place with the absolute nicest people working there, I lost it when I dropped her off. I was crying so hard I couldn't even talk. So... yeah, I am not great at this type of thing.

Yes, I cried as I was handing him to his teachers. DH had to drag me away from the room. Brennan did not cry at all, he loved it. Each day/week it gets easier. I know that his teachers love him and he has a great time so knowing that makes me happy.

Yessss.. I cried like a baby. So did my husband! After that first day, it got so much easier, though.

@krsmall: Tyler didn't cry at all, either! He was happy to see me when I picked him up.....then took a 45 minute nap at home (more than usual!)....then took an hour long stroller nap....then went to bed at 7 without a peep! And he only went a half day. I think you might be right that all the activity tuckers them out!

Los first day was wed and I put him in for a couple hours. I added a few hours yesterday to get him used to it. Today I did a "dry run"...actually taking him when I would really drop him off and then drove to work to see how long it would take. I don't cry the first two days but I did okay because it seemed real!! Boo hoo...I'll be a mess Monday when it IS real!

@prettylizy: Thank you! While he was there, I got a mani/pedi and a haircut! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, though I did feel a little anxious the whole time he was there : / He goes a full day tomorrow....I'll be busy getting ready to host my friend's baby shower.

@winniebee: I can only imagine. Your mat leave policies in the US are abhorrent. I can't imagine having to take my baby to daycare before 1 year old.
