Did you check emails? Or did you really unplug from work?

I did nothing. You aren't allowed to work on your leave, at least at my company, and I wanted to use the time to bond with my baby instead of worrying about work.

Nothing here either. They actually removed me from the email list except for announcements and job postings. I'm off for 9-12 months though
I do go in frequently enough though so I know what's going on

I logged onto my emails occasionally to forward stuff to the appropriate person if needed. I also had a photo for the website taken and attended a womens bar association function. But I took 5.5 months of leave

I unplugged for the most part and it was easier than you think. Even now I've been back at work for a year and I don't check emails most evenings and weekends. I think I checked emails a few times and I did go in once to have lunch with an out of town colleague. My job title completely changed during my leave so she filled me in a little.

I have read and answered emails on occasion but only when I wanted to or got bored.

My leave started two weeks before C was due, so I did check emails once or twice, then stopped caring. A month or so after she was born I had a call with my boss, because they were restructuring and she had to tell me about my new roll. Then I went in after a couple of months so I could quit in person (not because of the new roll, because I wanted to sah).

I went to our company "holiday" party two weeks after delivery (at the end of February ). I had to answer questions from coworkers by phone once or twice and I also attended a training seminar (totally my choice). And my husband and I took the kids to the office for a visit a few weeks ago. I go back to work in a week and a half...I'm ready but not ready...

Yeah, I was answering work calls 2.5 hours after I pushed out my second daughter.
FWIW, they didn't know I'd just given birth when they called and I answerved because I knew they needed me for a big event coming up.

I cleaned out my email a few times and had one call with my replacement to talk her through a difficult issue.

My manager asked me to come in for a meeting at around 3.5 months PP and we had a telephone meeting right before I went back to work. My mat leave was 4.5 months. The tough part was arranging child care since I had none!
pomelo / 5132 posts
Yes because my maternity sub would ask me things and I did some lesson planning for my return.

Yep. I'm the only one who does my job at my workplace and since I was only out 6 weeks, they didn't reassign my work.

With my 1st, I had my laptop at home and only used it to forward information to HR to add my son for insurance. With my 2nd, Nothing really except going to a going away party for a coworker.

I think I did nothing, which seems next to impossible now... but I was in a pretty different role and not responsible for managing any projects. I'm sure I'll have to check emails this time if I don't want a huge mess waiting for me when I'm back.

I did mostly nothing, but checked email strictly to delete junk and keep my inbox from getting completely overloaded and ending up in IT's "email jail". I also ended up working from home several hours over the course of the last few weeks of my scheduled leave - which extended my leave a bit and was a really nice transition period back to work.

yep, constant telephone calls, having to pop in to do some paperwork, and finally having to go in to train the new lady when DD was 10 weeks, and ended up back at work part time. so much for a year off!

I was going to say no, but I did answer a couple texts from the people that were filling in for me while I was off. That was it.

I think I checked emails once or twice during the first week and answered some handover questions that my boss had, but that's it. Haven't done anything since.
grapefruit / 4066 posts
Nope, I wasn't allowed to log on or check email. All of my email was forwarded to a temp anyways so I didn't have to worry about it piling up

I answered a few texts in the days before LO arrived. About a week before I went back I started reading notes from weekly meetings. The Friday before I returned I went in and met with my boss since he was leaving for a two week vacation. He made it clear that I didn't need to but I wanted to understand prioritization of projects. Plus it gave me a chance to practice pumping.
This time around I have a subordinate that is technically strong but pretty high maintenance. I anticipated that she will be texting me frequently. Now she's taking over a high profile project for me at a very difficult point. When my boss and I discussed my coverage months ago she was to take a small, defined part of it and he was going to take the lead. After walking my boss through all I do earlier in the week (which he should have already known) he backed out of his offer to cover. So I have 4 days to get her ready. It will be much, much harder to disconnect since I'm so invested and my coverage is ill-prepared.

Since I worked up until the day DS was born, I logged on to tie up some loose ends then I really shut my computer down and could only be reached via personal email.
Even though my company has a policy where you arent supposed to work while on leave - everyone does anyway - so I actually got some raised eyebrows for not checking in regularly. Kind of irritating, but I never apologized and I don't have any regrets. I was WAY too sleep deprived to be able to work, even writing an email would have been too much!

I read and addressed emails, but didn't really work work. I wrapped up all applicable work related to me prior to giving birth. Which meant, I was addressing emails on the hospital bed while being induced. lol

Only because I was leaving one job and starting another. Near the end of my leave I took a few meetings, cleaned out my old office and started checking email bit more just to be on the safe side with both employers.

I put in a few hours. My coworker left and my boss really needed some support. My taking a year really affects her business because there are only three of us.

I just logged in to delete emails - I don't think I received anything I needed to deal with. I went in to meet with my manager (and let my coworkers meet the baby) a couple of months before I came back (I was off for a year).

Nope, It's against company policy to log on to anything work related while on FMLA.
pomegranate / 3032 posts
I cleaned out my emails maybe twice over 14 weeks, and I went into the office with the baby 3 times (2 coworkers baby showers and our halloween party) and I went in one day without baby (health ins meeting, christmas potluck, trial run with daycare and I got paid for this day)

I checked mail so my inbox doesn't become a huge disaster or gets full! My boss also did text me to ask me a few things a couple of times, which I told him he could!

Wow, where do you all ladies work? Maybe bigger companies? I definitely plan to email from home and maybe do some calls. I am a psychologist and will be at 4 schools next year, supervising the entire counseling program at 2 of them and a team of counselors at a 3rd soo there are a lot of questions that issues that I will need to stay on top of since I am only taking 6 weeks leave. I work for a small not for profit so there's really no FMLA or anything else that might help . . .

I wrote a paper, signed notes, wrote two abstracts for conferences and did email. Leave gives me a chance to catch up on all the things I wouldn't be doing in my normal work flow.
