Did you do newborn photos with a photographer? I am undecided. I think they are really cute and I'd love to have pics documenting LO being that tiny...But my favorite photog is too far away for us to do newborn photos, so I was thinking of getting 3 months or 6 months photos instead when we can travel more easily. There are a few that I like in town but they are pretty expensive.

Mine caught me unawares, hook line and sinker. They provide 'free' photography at the hospital and then they tempt you with all the beautiful shots of your newborn so that you just can't say no. Can't. Say. No. So we ended up purchasing them and we don't regret it. She looked beautiful. I only wish they had done this a year ago when DS was born!

We did, but our photog is a close friend. I think I would have found someone though if she weren't able to do them. I love our photos and I've heard some say that they wished they had gotten them.

I debated on this one mainly because of cost and ultimately got them! Those pics are SO precious and priceless to me! I would have regretted not getting them done. At 7 weeks she already looks sooo different! Even my husband and our parents don't deny how special those pics are, and they are the type to always tell me not to waste $!

We plan on it, but only because we have a great student photographer who we use, and she only charges 55$ for the session, editing, and all rights to the photos. Otherwise we probably would skip them until she was older!

WE did not. I did a lot of "photoshoots" while I was home on maternity leave. I got some nice ones that I really like. I would rather do family pictures when she is a little older (probably sometime this spring/summer). nd I don't regret not getting them done professionally.

Our doula was also a photographer so she took pics in the hospital and we bought a selection from the hospital photographer. We didn't have a separate newborn session after that. I'd like to get some done of her, though! Probably for her first birthday.

We did a newborn shoot. I was glad we did,, he's only that tiny once.

This may not be an ideal suggestion for everyone, but when I realized I could buy a good camera for the same price as doing newborn pictures I decided to go that route! I bought a book teaching me the ins-and-outs of the camera, and played with it a bunch during my pregnancy. We ended up getting great shots of her using a makeshift backdrop on our dining room table, and I look forward to taking photography classes and getting great family pictures over the years

we didnt, we didnt even do the hospital ones because their timing was all off. I did my own shots at home though with our SLR camera

I just scheduled mine today as a matter of fact. DH was against it due to cost and not seeing the value difference in taking pictures ourselves. I finally just decided to pay for it myself - he'll change his mind when he see's them I just know!
Our photog is $260 which includes the session, all props/accessories and a DVD with all rights to the images (about 100 she estimates). I figured this is worth it since I can then print my own pictures, use one image for our announcement and one for the Christmas card. Also, the fact that she includes all kinds of props and accessories is a huge plus. I know I would probably spend at least $50-75 buying baskets/blankies to proper her on if I did my own pictures.

We did, but I wish we would have used a different photographer. Maybe one who was more experienced. We only got photos in the hospital and I just would have liked a better backdrop.

We will because we're doing maternity, birth, and newborn photos. We'll probably do future family photos with the same photographer as well. Since we got a combo package, it was cheaper, and we're good friends with her. My hubby and her hubby are always negotiating deals while working on the farm so we let the guys hash out the cost of the photoshoots via their manual labor and supply costs. haha!

We are doing a family mini session when she is one month old with a photographer whose work I really like, though! The worst part about doing your own photos is that you are never in them! And I want a large family canvas

Newborn photography can be expensive but they're so worth it! Our photographer didn't just do the sleepy baby wrapped up in blanket laying in basket type of shots (those are ADORABLE!), but she also documented us as a family. She was able to capture really sweet moments of DH and I holding our LO, gazing into her eyes, and just being utterly in love with her. When I saw the photos I realized it wasn't JUST about LO, it was about us a family and seeing that for the first time was really special.

Yep!! I found someone just starting. While they weren't exactly what I wanted R is still so cute in them! The hospital took some too. But we didn't buy any of those.

We did. A friend of mine is a wedding photographer, and did Chloe's newborn & first birthday photos as a favor. I don't regret the photos for a second... She captured the best memories for us!

We hadn't planned to because we couldn't really afford it, but after she was born I was sitting there staring at her and burst into tears at the thought of not documenting her newborn-ness.
So I called our birth photographer, and she gave me a discount and squeezed me in the next day. I'm SO glad we did it.
We did lifestyle photos, so they weren't posed. It captured the newness of our little family. Pictures of us cuddling in bed, nursing, sitting in the rocker, etc. LOVE them!

We did and I love them. That being said, we also did 6 month photos and those are even better--you can really see his personality in them!

We did something super last minute and casual in our home. I'm glad we did because in those early days we didn't really have any family photos of us 3 so if for no other reason, I was happy we did them because of that.

Lo and behold, I got an email today that I won a drawing for a newborn session! DH and I just went walking around a festival last weekend and both dropped our names in on a whim. I never win things!

Yes, I decided while in the NICU taht I wanted pictures, so I contacted a friend and she did them when we were released....I don't regret it, they are fabulous! I did newborn and 6 month and then will do a year. I skipped 3 and will skip 9, I feel like those are just too close together.

We did pictures and I definitely don't regret spending money on them. We actually did a package where you get maternity, newborn, 6 month and 1 year pics.

No. I took some pictures at home. I wish we had let the hospital photographer take some so I would have some of us as a family and some of her taken at the hospital (they were certainly cheaper than any decent photogs around here!)

we didn't and i regret it. we have a ton of camera pics but not ones from the hospital or tiny newborn ones. next time i want a photog there when LO meets brother/sister for the first time.

Yes, we did. Unfortunately, I think she looks even cuter at the 1 month mark, but our photographer did get several great shots. I wish there were even more better ones. We're using one of them for birth announcements.
