If so, why did you make that decision?

Nope. It just wasn't something I was interested in. I didn't even look at it even though they offered- though I sort of wish I had seen it after all.
If I had ppd after this one I would have looked into it further for number two though.

Nope. I just saw a feature on the news about research that they're doing on placentas to determine if there's some indicators for autism located on the placenta, and I almost lost my breakfast. That just does not look appetizing.
I know that January Jones took it in capsules... But just.. No.

I was planning on it this time (didn't have anyone available to encapsulate it last time).
I feel really confident it would've helped with the emotional/hotmail adjustment of pp.... It took months before I felt like me again & if I could help that along then I definitely was gonna.
I didn't have supply issues but have heard from moms that did with previous children that it helped with that as well!

I don't think I could ever get past the idea of eating part of myself. And I think it's purely psychological, since I assume that encapsulating it would be just like taking any other pill.

I thought about encapsulating it, and looked into getting a person to do it, but it's pretty pricey in my area so I didn't do it.
In the end, I'm glad I didn't because I didn't need it. I'm 6 weeks post partum now and have had 0 emotional issues. I mean, I was a little more sappy and emotional than usual, but it was about the same as during pregnancy and I had no depression issues.

I plan on it! I'm going to have it encapsulated. Just so many benefits!

I'm considering encapsulation this time... I'm still researching my options and benefits.

Even if its just mental, it grosses.me.out.
With that said, hell no.

I thought long and hard about it but I read some stories about women who felt really out of sorts after eating it so I decided not to. I had a good look at it though!!

Yes. Processed it myself, as well. I did it for mood benefits and to help with milk production and noticed differences with both. I would do it again if we ever have another child.

No. I would much rather eat a Big Mac then my placenta. It's cool that people do it, I'm just too grossed out by it. I'd like to see some research on the benefits. I know animals do it but that's to ward off predators.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Nope. I think it's interesting if it really does have benefits but I didn't do any research because it's just not something I think I could ever do.
pineapple / 12526 posts
No. I didn't even consider it this time. Im considering looking into encapsulation next time though. Anything that might help with PPD is worth a try.
watermelon / 14206 posts
No. The only thing I'm bringing home that comes out of me is the baby.

I've encapsulated twice and would do it again. It helped so much with PPD and milk supply. I was a mess after my first baby (no encapsulation) so I researched it for my next, and I'm so glad I did - PP after DS was so much easier and having it in capsules made it less like I was eating my placenta, and more like just taking a random pill.
persimmon / 1153 posts
Yep. I had it encapsulated and also had a placenta smoothie to help with some clots. I did it because I have a history of depression and hormonal issues. I always felt energetic after taking my pills...like I had just had a cup of coffee.

I would consider it if I saw some really excellent evidence of benefits but I don't feel like I've found that yet. I know a lot of people point to other mammals doing it but like @mrsjazz said, that's to make sure you're not leaving it to notify predators that babies are around.

I would consider encapsulating it. I, also, have a history of depression so if it helps prevent or reduce PPD, it might be a good idea for me.

Negative. The thought of eating something that came out of me grosses me out.

@mrsjazz: Bahaha I think I'd choose barf (thousand island dressing) on a cheeseburger over placenta too!
persimmon / 1035 posts
No, I have no interest and the idea sounds gross to me although I admit I've done no research on why someone would.
pomegranate / 3388 posts
I didn't, but I very well might the next time around... even though I was totally weirded out by the idea originally. I had really horrific PPD after my daughter was born, and I'd do anything to make that not happen the next time around. I know placenta encapsulation isn't a 100% cure for PPD, but people say it works wonders on your postpartum mood, so I figure it can't hurt!
