I was never once grounded. My parents didn't want me around when I did something wrong, because it just annoyed them more. I had a lot of friends that would get grounded often though.

Not really. I was lectured and sent to my room for a bit. When my parents tried to punish me by taking away TV that always failed. They weren't really big on following through and enforcing punishments.
The most effective punishment was when I wasted my mom's time. If I misspelled words that she quizzed me on I had to write them five times.

Not a lot, which made it really stand out when I did! I remember once was for playing with matches--3rd grade or so, once was for being too shy to say hi back to my mom's friend at church (you better believe I'm friendly now!)--pretty young at the time and once was for not having high enough grades...meaning I got an A- and not an A. The last one reeeeally pissed me off--that was in high school.

@tororojo: woah!! That seems pretty strict...man I would have been grounded a lot in those cases

I was grounded a LOT. But it was for legit things like getting caught skipping school with my bff or staying out way past my curfew on a date with a senior guy that made my overprotective dad not happy lol. I guess I was a little punk back then.

Not really. I was a really well behaved teenager. Which was a shock to my mom since I was a holy terror as a toddler.

Not really. We used to have this "Virtues" book and my punishment ould be to write out that particular virtue (for example, honesty) multiple times. Each virtue was approx four pages long....much paper was used >_<

Ugh, grounding was my dads punishment of choice for pretty much everything. I feel like I was grounded from 12-21 (when I moved out!) at least once a month. My dad was a hard @$$, but I always knew he loved me.... so it wasn't like I had a terrible childhood or anything! lol!

@FutureMrsMcK: that sounds awful. ((hugs))
Only a couple of times. I guess I deserved it. I can't really remember what the punishment was for!

@MsLipGloss: I have 6 siblings who were all very serious trouble-makers...my parents seemed to believe that as long as the cops weren't looking for me, I wasn't OD'ing, the school wasn't calling saying I was expelled/failing/suspended/fighting etc etc that I was good on my own. I was bitter about it for a long time, but wasn't willing to throw my life away to get attention from them, which is what would have had to have happened. I'm mostly over it...although I'm a little worried I'll end up smothering my kids with affection because of it, lol.
Sorry for the threadjack OP!

Never, but I was punished in other ways. My friends were grounded all the time though.

All. The. Time. I became an avid reader simply because I was grounded all the time! In high school I was grounded every time I got a zero on a daily assignment (meaning, I didn't complete my homework for the day). I spent a lot of time grounded until I got my act together. (I was a rebel!)
