Yes but only for a month. I still think it's a necessity. We just bought the white Gerber cheap ones

My DD1 was in NB for 6 weeks but DD2 was born in size 0-3. NB wouldn't even snap around her neck!

Yes, he had about 10 onesies and a few other outfits that we used for 6 weeks. He was long but skinny so 0-3 month stuff was way too big at first.

Yes...we even got to use all of the tiny baby (under 7lbs, I think!) clothes which we were handed down! She was in TB for a couple of weeks and then NB for ages...maybe another month before she went into 0-3.

Yes! In fact we were dumb and only brought 0-3 month clothes with us to the hospital and LO was swimming in them. So I had to be shopping... yes right after giving birth and bought a some newborn clothes.
I would say 10 or so onies/sleepers is all you need if you wash clothes a lot... we washed like every other day because early on you are still learning... so there is a lot of blow outs and spit ups that end up on clothes. I would say LO was in those for about a month or so.

Lo was early so we were in preemie/newborn for about 3 months. He was born at 5lbs 9oz.

We were in NB size for about 6-8 weeks. I had to buy more after he was born because based on stuff I read here I focused more on 3 month clothes and didn't have enough NB. Definitely have NB stuff on hand!

Only for a couple weeks, and honestly could have just used the 0-3 clothes.

@Raindrop: We did the same...I was convinced she was going to be 9lbs+, but nope! So all the pics of her at the hospital she looks swamped by her huge onesies!

My daughter was 6lbs. 14oz. at birth and most of her NB sleepers were too big for about 2 weeks. She's 5 weeks now and almost 9lbs. but is still in NB clothes.

We had a bigger baby (9lb11, 22in) but were expecting that and only had one Carter's NB outfit gifted to us. It was a joke trying to get him in it! So we were glad we'd not bought any more, he couldn't wear them.
Around term, see if your practitioner can give you a weight estimate - experienced hands are usually pretty good, at worst within a pound or so, which is probably still good enough to know what to buy.

Mine were full term but small (4 lb 15 oz and 5 lb 15 oz) so they were in NB for quite a while. At almost 4 months, my son still wears NB pants!

@illumina: LOL! Yes! My doc told me I was going to have a 8-9+ lb baby! I had a 7.5 lb baby (40wk3d). Yup swimming in the clothes we bought. I'm glad we weren't the only ones that did that.

DD was over ten pounds and 22.5 inches at birth. She didn't fit in the newborn diapers provided by the hospital. I had to send DH out to get size ones. Newborn clothes were equally too small.

My kiddo's were 9lb1oz and 8lb13oz and both wore NB stuff about 3w. Biggest issue was length!

@snowjewelz: I would definitely recommend that you bring both sizes (a pair of newborn and a pair 0-3) to cover your bases. We are doing that for this coming baby.

E was 8lb, 12oz and wore NB clothes for a week or two.

@Raindrop: That's a good idea, I def need to remember this when packing hospital bag!

Yes, she was 7lb10oz & wore for 4-6 weeks (depending on brand)

DS was 8lbs9oz and wore newborn for at least a month. He's not very long though just chunky. Id definitely take both to the hospital!

We used them for about 4 months! E was a little bit (6lb, 14oz at birth) . Now he's a lardbutt. Go figure.

We didn't have any NB clothes, and had to send our moms to go buy some when DD was born! She was 7 lbs 2 oz and full term, but wore NB for about 6 weeks.

yep! had biggish and tall babies (8lbs9 and 7lbs 13) and still used nb for at least a month or so. it's nice to have some snug fitting sleepers that first month! (because that month feels like for-EVER) haha....

Daughter was born 7lbs 3oz. Wore newborn for a month and a half!

Dd was 8lb 13oz and I'd say we used nb clothes for at least 2 months? The 3 month stuff was huge on her

N is still in them at 6 weeks (born at 8lbs 6oz). They usually have lasted until 8 weeks with all 3 kids.

giant baby girl wore NB size for a few weeks - but only certain brands. I had some Carter's onesies I could never squeeze her in, but some other brands that were a little bigger that worked.

Our LO was born 6 lbs 11 oz and wore them for 8 weeks or so. She also wore NB diapers for about that long too.

DS wore newborn for about a month. I think it's worth it to buy some basics like onsies and sleepers.

Maybe for a week for some sleep gowns but everything else we pretty much went straight to 0-3 months. I thought she was going to be tiny bc DH and I are not tall/large people - but she was a healthy 8lbs 8oz and gained quickly so we barely used NB clothes
