I did Junior High, 7-9. Started HS in Grade 10.

HS for me was 9-12

Where we live now its:

Elementary - K-6
Middle 7-9
High School - 10-12

Middle school. I went to middle school but my husband was in the midwest at the time and went to Jr high.

I went to a middle school (Grades 6-8) Intermediate HS (9-10) Senior High School (11-12) the high schools were connected by certain hallways but they tried to keep the classes clustered with the exception of things like the photo lab, sewing room, wood shop, metal shop etc. There were 4 gyms and 2 cafeterias, but only 1 theater and 1 library.

The school district our little one is in elementary (K-6) Middle (7-9) High (10-12)... I'm not a fan.

For me it was
K-6 was Elementary school
7-8 was Junior High (however it was part of the HS, just a different addition but we shared a gym/lunch room/ect. just used at different times. We had to walk to the HS for some electives which was a HUGE deal

9-12 was high school

@tinyperson: Interesting! There are definitely a few here, but it's not the norm. My Junior High was actually K-9, but I only went there from 7-9. Weird how school just decide to have whatever grades they feel like. haha

If we do the schools that we are currently in the district for, they will go to primary school (k-3), intermediate school (4-8), and high school (9-12).

I went to JHS, but where I live now has middle schools.

I was part of the class that was transitioning from junior high school to middle school. So I went to...
Elementary school: grades K-6
Middle school: 7-8
9th grade center: 9
High school: 10-12

I need to see what they ended up doing with the 9th graders. I think they might go to high school now.

As for my children, I have no idea but I would assume they would now go to middle school.

DH's job requires us to move a lot, so I can't say for sure (and we might still be homeschooling), but if we stay here, where we're from, it'll be middle school. We both went to middle schools as well. I was in GA and TN, DH just TN.

Here in AZ, it's mostly K-8 then 9-12, or k-3, 4-8, and 9-12.

For the past six years I've worked at a 4th through 8th grade school and it's a really weird mix. It's also really hard for administrators to be skilled at navigating that range of grade levels, worse even with the K-8s.

I went to jr high. Kids will go to middle school, but they'll remain at the same school k-12.

I went to a k-8 and there are still some k-8s in our neighborhood. I actually hope that the schools in our neighborhood stay k-8 so I could send ds there. I currently teach middle school 6-8 and see a huge difference in the behavior of the kids who go to middle school vs those who go to a k-8. We have some schools in the district where I teach that are 6-12 (now this I'm definitely against BC i don't need my future 11-12 year old around high school seniors)

Im in Canada and my province does K-5, 6-8, 9-12. That's what I went through too.

I went to an elementary school, K-8, and then on to high school (this was in the US).

In England, it is totally different and my girls will go to school as follows:

- Infant school for nursery from age 3 through Year 2 (equivalent of 1st grade in the US)

- Junior school for Years 3-6 (2nd to 5th grade equivalent)

- Secondary school for Years 7-11 (or 12, can't remember exactly)

- Sixth form at the same secondary school - this is not compulsory but is a precursor to university for two years, usually ages 16-18

I went to a school system with Jr. High - which is 7-9. I never heard of junior high before that I was only 7 and 8. High school was 10-12, elementary was k-6.

In the school system we live in now he'll go to middle school (6-8). Around here that seems to be the norm. My old school went through a lot of changes and did a lot of experimenting - at one point they had a school for just K, then a school for just 6th grade, now a school for just 9th grade I think. So you do k-6, middle school (6-8), 9th grade, then HS (10-12).

I don't really like the concept of middle school over having junior high. I think 6th grade is really young to be putting kids in schools with older kids, and with the responsibility of getting to class, navigating when to use a locker, etc. I also wonder if it contributes to so much sexual behavior at a young age today.

I went to junior high but it was 6-8th grades!

@jennylayneaz: My husband and I have worked in Roosevelt, Glendale, and Peoria (largest district in Phoenix I hear). All three districts have the k-8 system, and I believe most of the surrounding suburban districts and charters do.
