Hanging actual prints with any weight above the crib is dangerous, right? For my first I had decals above his crib....but we have wainscotting/paneling in this rental house so I can't really do a decal. I'm wondering if even hanging some light canvas prints would be a bad idea....

Oooo glad you asked this. i always see it in blogs and on pinterest and wonder how to do it safely. I saw on one blog where they discussed it (taylor sterling's nursery)... she used light weight frames with plastic instead of glass. but everything makes me nervous!

I used unframed canvases for LO1 so they were really lightweight. For this baby I think I may end up doing letters above her crib made out of cardboard and fabric or scrapbook paper.

I had wood frames hung by wire and then attached with Velcro. They were actually hard to get off the wall when we moved. I replaced the glass with pieces of acrylic.

I had decals as well as our old place, but now I have a name banner (soft and light) hung over her crib.

We hung pics behind LOs crib. We used the PBK frames and DH securely fastened them to the wall.

We painted vertical stripes behind the crib so we didn't have to hang anything above it. It scared me to hang anything over the crib!

Honestly, this never even occurred to me.
We had a pretty heavy framed cross-stitch over his crib. But we hung it securely with wire and plaster anchors. I think it would have taken a BIG earthquake to knock it off the wall.

No I didn't hang anything. I did a handpainted alphabet over the crib.

No, we stenciled an accent wall behind her crib. I wouldn't be opposed to hanging anything, I'd just make sure it was light and secured properly. Also, if the crib isn't directly against the wall, if something falls off the likelihood of it landing in the crib is reduced.

i have a large unframed canvas over her crib. it is light enough I don't think it would hurt her if it fell, but also I used 4 command velcro strips (http://www.amazon.com/Command-Large-Picture-Hanging-Strips-4-Strip/dp/B00404YKZI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414696288&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+command+velcro+strips) to put it up. they are meant to hold 16 lbs and the canvas weighs well under a pound so I feel it is very very secure.

We didn't because I was worried about them somehow falling off the wall and into her crib. She's 15 months old and currently her favorite thing to do is stand in her crib and bang on the walls, so I'm glad we decided against it! We did a decal instead.

No, I was too concerned about something falling on her. I might be persuaded to do something really small and light, but not a framed picture even if the glass was removed. There are other places to hang pictures...I did do a stencil that sort of wraps around one side of the crib, though.

I plan to; but the frames are super thin and light from Ikea (and no glass) and I was just going to ask DH to make sure they're very stuck to the wall!

We've always had something hung. DH anchored it to the wall, I'm not worried about it going anywhere.

I hung large frames with glass. I just scooted the cribs a few inches away from the wall so the frames could fall between the wall and the cribs.

Oh goodness. We have a huge framed map above her bed. No glass, more like a big chalkboard. It's secured with wire and hooks on a picture rail. I never really thought about it falling ... New fear to worry about.

Haha sorry to scare everyone! I think there are definitely ways to secure things effectively! I don't trust our walls here Bc they are very very old...

We used command strips like @mae suggested. We have canvases with cardboard letters above and it feels very secure.

I hung pictures in the lightweight, inexpensive Ikea frames- they have plastic instead of glass. Along with a hanger into the wall, I also used the Velcro command strips. They are light enough that I'm not worried.

Nope, for some reason my irrational baby fear is the same as @fancyfunction: that they will fall down on her...even though I don't live in an area with earthquakes and my walls are very strong...

When she was an infant we had nothing, now there's a poster on the long side, and a dream catcher above her head on the other wall.
