As the title asks, did you have a play room growing up?
I have noticed a LOT of families now have rooms dedicated for play. We have half our living room dedicated to play space.
However, when I was growing up, my room was my play space. There weren't toys in any room but my room unless I brought them out. Which I always had to clean up when I was done.

Oh gosh - no way!! Like you my toys were in my bedroom!
But yes our kids do have a playroom - its suppose to be the formal living room but we aren't formal people - ha - so its a playroom now!

We did! There was a room in our basement that couldn't legally be a bedroom (no windows or really any light at all...) so we turned that into our playroom. It was awesome! At one point, my parents painted a chalk wall, and bought this old-fashioned school desk, so my sister and I could play school.

We did NOT have a play room. Most of our toys were in our room, though there were probably some in the living room too, but the majority of our toys were kept in our own rooms and we had to put them back when we were done playing with them (or at the end of the day)!

Nope! I had, like, one Barbie and I shared a room with my brother up until I was 7. And then my bedroom was my play room.
My daughters play in the family room or their bedrooms.

We briefly had a play room in the house that we moved into when I was 4, but it was an unheated, enclosed porch we couldn't use most of the year (Michigan--so it got coooold!). My parents converted it into a real room as an office at some point shortly after we moved in, I don't remember exactly when. So mostly we played in our own rooms!

We did and it was a mess. I don't think my kids will unless we move into a house with more bedrooms.

Nope! We lived in an apartment so forget about playspace! I don't ever recall felling deprived or anything though.

We did and we are in the process o turning our small den into a playroom for LO. I want a space where all the toys can live and I don't have to look at them all the time!

Not really. Most of my toys were in my bedroom and I just brought them out/put them away. But we did have an unfinished basement that we spent a bit of time in, mostly roller skating and doing messier crafts (and that stuff lived in the basement)

No, I didn't have very many toys and they were in my room. I had a lot of books.

No. Most of my toys were kept in my bedroom. There was a big space behind our family room couch that had a trunk full of toys and my kiddie table & chairs and my blackboard was kept. So I had a play area.

I think I might have in our old house, I was an only child for a long time and we had an extra bedroom.
The biggest toy I had was my Barbie Dream House and my baby dolls. They were all in my bedroom.

@snowjewelz: Yea, I never knew any differently so I didn't really feel deprived either.
Our eldest boys share a room, so it's hard to make them play and keep all their toys in there. It's kinda crammed already! I am trying to convince DH that we need a bigger house and if that ever happened, the boys would definitely keep their toys in their rooms!

My dad turned half of his storage space in the basement into a play room fir us. It was under a sunken living room so the ceilings were only like 5' high and we thought it was so cool that grown ups didn't really fit in there.

@prettylizy: our crawl space under the stairs was like that and I loved playing in it. My mom had made a little curtain to hide all the junk in their and I thought it was the coolest little hideout!

I had one at my grandparent's house. We spent more time outside there because they have a farm.

Definitely not. There were 6 of us in a small condo. The outdoors was as close to a "play room" as we ever got.

@mrs. bird: HAHAHA! Yes! I swear outside was my second home. We basically had to spend all day outside when it was nice out.
No playroom. It's interesting to me that this is a thing! If we ever have a playroom it will be a playroom for the entire family, not just LO.

@mrsjazz: I never really gave it much thought until the other day when I was getting annoyed at looking at all the mess in our living room and trying to figure out how I could possibly add a small desk for my work.
"why are boys so messy???? I never did this when I was a kiiiiid. oh wait, I never had a play room to make messy". So then I started thinking and realized all my friends with kids have play rooms (or partial playrooms, like ours). When did this change??

@.twist.: No idea. We could "play" in our living room but all of our toys were kept in our room. I have no idea when this changed though. I guess we weren't paying attention until we had kids ourselves.

Nope. Our bedroom was the playroom unless we brought our toys out to the living room to play.

Yes, we had a sunroom off of our living room, although it was typically so messy that it wasn't very useful to play in. My parents should have taught us to clean up better!

Nope, didn't have many toys to begin with. Our kids won't have a playroom, either.
