My mom opened an account for me when I was 8. I had to deposit 50% of all birthday and Christmas money in there!

Haha! This is fun to think about! My parents had their own banking system for us - they took all our birthday, babysitting, etc money and kept tabs on what they 'owed' us. I saved most of it my entire childhood and then blew it all going to Europe after college

My parents put our money into a savings account, and it went to help pay down the mortgage.

I didn't have one. My brother's grandparents had (and still have) one for me. They have a farm and raise cattle. When my brothers and I were young they gave us our own cows. We get the money from any offspring of that cow when they're sold. They will occasionally give me some "cow money", but I won't get all of it until they pass away. I hope that is many years from now!

Yes I remember going to the bank and getting a free t-shirt with the banks name on it and a bank shaped piggy bank for my coins. I was in kindergarten so I must have been about 5 and a half

yes - and every time the tooth fairy would come, she would leave a toonie for me under my pillow and put 10$ in my bank account. It was really neat - beside the deposit in my bank book would be a little tooth fairy stamp! I think it was a program the bank ran.

I did not, but this is something I want to change for my LO. We started one for her so she has money to buy a car, go to college, or buy a house. It won't be a lot but at least it's something.

I got one when I was 7 or 8. It was during a unit study on banking and money management we did in our home school.
