Myself, my two brothers and my mother all caught chicken pox on my 15th birthday. We ended up all camping out in the lounge room for the week, watching films. My mother ended up in hospital though, after she got chicken pox on her lungs. FI and I will probably vaccinate our children against it.

I had it in 1st grade and I still remember the itch. We are vaccinating. My understanding is that you can only get shingles once you've had the chicken pox, so if it is possible for my son to avoid both I would like him to. The one thing I need to do more research on is when/if you would need to get vaccinated again to remain protected because I know it's not good to get the chicken pox as an adult.

I had chicken pox in grade school and got a permanent scar on my jawbone because of it. It looks like a little raised bump that's gotten a little smaller over the years. But after 25 years it's still definitely there.
BTW, I didn't know there was a vaccine for it!
