That you should ONLY apply shampoo to your scalp - not the rest of your hair
and
That you should ONLY apply conditioner to the ends of your hair!
Apparently I have been doing it all wrong!

Yes! Learned a few years ago and it makes a huge difference!!

I already do this! I have very long hair (to my butt) and I only apply the shampoo to my scalp and conditioner to the rest of it. I also leave in the conditioner for a few minutes while I wash my body.

Yes! I have layers so I do the conditioner about midway and below.

If you have short hair, it's kind of impossible, but I do get the point.

@whenoceansrise: I think the theory is that the oils really come from your scalp, so that's where shampoo is needed. Also I'm pretty sure conditioner also has cleaning ingredients?

@whenoceansrise: Rinsing out the shampoo and it running through the rest of your hair as you rinse is supposed to be enough to clean the rest of it!

@pui: @danizaur: so weird! I'm going to have to start trying this

I guess I've been shampooing and conditioning wrong my whole life! Will need to try this.

Yes! I sometimes still shampoo my whole head out of habit, but b/c I have greasy hair, I always only apply conditioner to the ends!

I only learned this about a year or so ago and it was a total.life.changer.

This works unless you apply (a fair amount of) product to your ends/throughout your hair.

Yep! I do focus the shampoo on the roots but I pull it through the rest of my hair for just a minute right before I rinse if I've used hairspray I only ever put conditioner on the ends though, my hair has a tendency to look greasy anyways, no need helping it along.

I shampoo my scalp, but like to condition all of my hair.
I also spray leave in conditioner and use oil that my stylist recommended!
I have color treated hair though.

@chopsuey: You have awesome Breck-Girl-Tastic hair (was gonna use Pantene, but Breck worked better)!

@Mamaof2: I only knew the conditioner part. Will start with the shampoo tomorrow morning.

I've heard that about conditioner but not abiut shampoo. I have shorter hair so it really doesn't make that much difference with regard to the shampoo application. I don't use conditioner very often though.

@Mamaof2: dude!!!! My hair has been TOTALLY different (in a good way) ever since I adopted this technique. I kind of always knew about it from magazines, but never listened. Now, I do it and my hair looks and feels so much better. Not as much residue and not greasy (because of conditioner being only on ends).
