Nope. My labor was over night (9:30pm to 9:30am). For the first half I was too busy being in pain/getting to the hospital/gettig admitted/etc. Once I got my epidural around 3:30am I just played on my phone and true to get some rest. Then I started pushing around 8:30. Putting music on never even crossed my mind.

It sounds so cheesy, and even my doula laughed at me, but Enya and Enigma. I couldn't get enough of it. I never listened to new age stuff before or since.
Funny thing, I walked into my living room yesterday holding LO. Enya was playing randomly. LO looked at me, sighed, and smiled like she remembered the days of labor in the living room.

Nope, didn't listen to anything. I remember the Kardashians were on though lol on mute.

Nope, pre epi I was way too focused. Post epi, I only had 2 more hours of labor so there wasn't much time.

Nope. We had the TV on during labor and I think it was on till delivery but I couldn't tell you for sure.

Yes, which is funny because I didn't make a playlist or really expect to want music. However, my labor ended up being 34 hours and I labored for almost 30 hours out of the hospital. We actually checked into a hotel next to the hospital so we could be close by (the hospital was an hour away with traffic and my parents needed a place to stay anyway). I went to the hotel gym and bounced on an exercise ball while listening to Pandora on my iphone. I usually don't listen to Christian music very often, but that's what I wanted in that moment...something uplifting/inspiring. It really helped - I was feeling so tired and discouraged at the time!
I didn't listen to any music once I got to the hospital.

Yes! I heard one song at least 5 times that night. That song brings me back everytime I hear it!

No! Pre-terrible pitocin contractions we were watching tv, but when they really got going I made Dan turn the TV off. The noise was pissing me off. I needed it absolutely quiet while Dan rubbed my back & I moaned and grunted. Once I got my epi, I decided to rest, so we just left everything off. I brought a little speaker, because I planned to listen to some praise music during the delivery, but I got checked, found out I was 10cm & had a baby in my arm like 15 minutes later. There wasn't time to think about putting the music on!

nope, i didn't even have time to call anyone and tell them i was in labor.

I didn't do music or TV the entire 36 hrs in L&D! The doc thought it was weird but enjoyed the silence. (I think working in retail for several years soured me on background music...I don't like constant noise)

No. I brought my iPod and travel speakers with me to the hospital but never desired to hear music while I was in labor. I really thought I would, but the thought never crossed my mind, I was so focused on getting through each contraction.

Yep! I had a long playlist of worship music that I had playing almost the whole time.... for 44 hours to be exact! I didn't listen to it during pushing though b/c we transferred from home to the hospital.

Nope, I bought my mp3 player with me just in case but I wasn't in the mood, trying to get through my contractions was hard and I didn't want any distractions. Plus I was on the monitor the whole time and Lo's heartbeat was the only noise in the room besides talking.

Nope, I had my iPod ready to go, but everything went so fast (only in or room for less than 4 hours before he arrived and I don't remember much of it) that we never remembered to use it!
Next time if I'd love to use it, to make a more fun environment! I'd love to see what comes on in key moments.

Nope, I wanted silence one things got real. Before that DH and I were watching tosh.0 reruns lol!

Yes, when contractions got intense (really just during transition) I put on a meditation playlist my yoga instructor made for me. I had used it during pregnancy to calm down & focus and it really helped during that time! By the time the playlist ended, I was pushing and I was too focused to ask for it to replay. 8 months out, I still tear up a little when I hear specific songs on that playlist.

Nope. It was during the night and early morning so I tried to sleep, talked to my DH, parents and sister and just rested.

The greatest thing DH did was play music on his phone while I pushed. It was a long 2 1/2 hours but we listened to Guster and Mumford & Sons. Hearing those albums always takes me back

No, I didn't even bring it. I knew I wouldn't want it.
nectarine / 2591 posts
I didn't think I would but the room was just too quiet so I put on some Florence and the Machine. Am sure it had finished playing by the time I started to push but I was in the zone and would have no idea really.

We had a "labor playlist" of just stuff we like-Avett Brothers, Mumford, Josh Ritter, MMJ, Matisyahu, etc. I listened to that up until I knew things were getting real (push time) and then we had a separate playlist of only Sigur Ros and it was perfect background music.

Yes -- we listened to some music while I was pushing - I can't really remember what, my husband was playing some - he did play "push it" and had me and the nurse laughing.... I was pushing for 5 hrs so we had the time.

no--i had an epidural so i was feeling good. plus my sister was there and she did a great job of calming/encouraging me. DH was a bit too distracted and excited!

I made a playlist in case I wanted to but I did not - I was too focused to even think about it.

nope, i labored overnight and pushing was 2 hours in the morning!

In the early hours of labor, we watched Major League on my computer, ha!
Rachel Phelps: The fact is we lost our two best players to free agency. We haven't won a pennant in over thirty-five years, we haven't placed higher than fourth in the last fifteen. Obviously it's time for some changes.
Board Member 2: This guy here is dead!
Rachel Phelps: Cross him off, then!
After that, the only music we had play was when DH accidentally butt-played "In the New Year" by The Walkmen, in the OR.

No, I had a playlist all ready, but music was the last thing on my mind when I was getting ready to push. I watched TV up until it was time to start pushing.

I listened to Christian music/worship music while I was in labor. HECK NO did I listen to music while pushing. At that point I'd been awake for over 36 hours and was furious and in pain and miserable.
persimmon / 1153 posts
Nope. I spent weeks creating playlists and when the time came & my husband and doula offered to start the music I told them not to.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
yup. I listened to a mix of Christian/worship music while I was in labor/delivery. I still remember the song that was playing when Cobi was born and it's "his" song. I love it!
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
Nope. I honestly slept most of the time I was in labor due to one bad*ss epidural!
