I had multiple teachers tell me they loved my papers and essays and wished I would have spoken up more in class. I never raised my hand, and would only speak if they made me.

Yup. I'm one of those people that can't teach myself from a book. If I didnt understand something I would always raise my hand and ask the prof to clarify. It worked well for me because I had a 3.8 and pretty much never studied for a test... I just retained the info from taking notes in class.

I didn't. Just liked listening and getting out asap!

@artbee: I was the same way. Even when I was younger, I wouldn't raise my hand in school.

I was an English major at a very small school with small class sizes (usually about 15-25 students/class) so I talked all the time. I think I was that obnoxious girl who actually read all the material and raised my hand constantly. I guess I just get really excited about reading/discussing books!

I talked quite a bit in some classes that were small like 15-40 kids but I went to a huge school with lecture classes with anywhere from 300-700 kids in them & nobody really talked much in those. I loved it!!

Never! I hated being called on... and yet I like public speaking. Weird.

Rarely, but I just don't like talking much. I almost got a C in French because I suck at making conversation.

I hate getting called on, but I visited my teacher's office hours frequently when needed.

I didn't raise my hand a lot but I always sat in the front row and participated if I needed to.
