I haven't read it, but was thinking about picking it up ahead of watching the movie...
Did you read "The Hunger Games"?

I just got a copy and started reading it while my husband was finishing up some work and the baby was taking a catnap and I'm already so captivated...I was summarizing what I read to my husband over dinner and he was like "how many pages have you read?" bc so much has already happened...I'm only 40 pages in and it is good!

Yup, all 3 books. Loved them all. If you have amazon prime, you should be able to download the books for free on your kindle. If you don't have a kindle, you can download the iphone or the mac/pc version to read on your computer.

Yes. It's a very quick read. I'm on book 3 now (just started)
also what is Amazon prime?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Yes, I read them all! LOVED them! Can't wait for the movie on Saturday!
I would maybe not read the books RIGHT before seeing the movie though, if I were you. Movies are almost never as good as the books and if all the books details are fresh in your mind, you're going to be stuck comparing and noticing everywhere the movie might be lacking.

Loved The Hunger Games. Read all three books in four days last year. I can't wait for the movie!

My students were SO into it and kept telling me to read it with them but I generally dislike science-fiction so I held off. But now my friends are urging me to get into it so...Maybe.

I loved it..which sounds kind of perverse, once you realize what happens in the books. I blew through all 3 within a few days.
Once you finish those, another similar concept is Divergent by Veronica Roth. I loved it! It's the first in another trilogy, but the last two have not come out yet.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@sorrycharlie: I agree! Divergent is very good! I'll be picking up the next book, Insurgent, as soon as it comes out (May 1st)!

My mom and sister have. My sister just gave it to me the other day but I haven't had a chance to start it.

Looooved Hunger Games and am SO excited for the movie!! I practically forced my 20 yr old sister to read it last summer (she wasn't in a reading mood, apparently) but then she got addicted too!

I haven't read it, but I'm considering it! Will probably just watch the movies

Yes, I actually read all 3 books twice since the first time I just flew through them to find out what happened. I'm a book worm for sure! I can't wait for the movie, we are going on Sunday!

Loved the books! Read all 3 in a 5 day period on our honeymoon.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Yes, and I loved the storyline. Writing was okay, and the 3rd book was rushed, but I still love it!

I read them all for the first time at the beginning of last year. I read them again a couple months ago. I can't wait for the movie. We got our tickets already.

Read them all and loved them! Literally read one a week : )

I downloaded the first one pretty cheap on my kindle, will start reading it when I finish my current book. Definitely have to read it before seeing the movie- but we'll probably wait until we can watch the movie at home with the baby anyway.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
I'm reading it again and I'm about 75% through the book. It's so good!
And I also read the trilogy in about a week. I think I read the 2nd and 3rd book in about 3 days each. I never read a series so quickly but I think it's because of my kindle and being able to buy books at anytime.
@Adira: That is a good point about not reading the book again but then again I've seen movies where it's been a while since I read the book and I still question the movie. Like the Harry Potter movies.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@bluestriped bee: haha, yeah, I know what you mean. But I had a friend who would read the Harry Potter books RIGHT before going to the movie, and then he ALWAYS left the movie angry, where-as I put years between when I read the book and watched the movie so I still found the movie entertaining on its own and couldn't remember all the pieces that were missing or wrong. It made for a more more enjoyable experience for me.

I haven't read it but I did finally buy the first book to see what all the fuss is about. I don't like Twilight but I have had a few people tell me that they like it & also do not like the Twilight series.

Yep, I love them!!! I actually just bought tickets for the midnight showing today.
honeydew / 7968 posts
read the book. enjoyed the first one so much i hurried and bought the other 2. finished all 3 within days. i just don't think the movie will be as good. i wasn't really into the trailer. we'll see.

I really liked the books, the first one was my favorite! We have tickets to the midnight showing too.

@pastemoo: Amazon prime is something you sign up and pay for so you can get fast free shipping on your amazon orders. Not everything is eligible for prime shipping but lots of products are eligible and arrive super fast. We signed up a few years ago bc we do a lot of our Christmas shopping on amazon so instead of paying a bunch of money for the cost of shipping we found it was a better deal to pay for the prime membership and then be able to get free shipping on our purchases throughout the year.

Loved them all! Just got tickets for opening weekend with some girfriends!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Adira: Yeah, I know they can't fit everything into the movie. I'm not usually the type to get really disappointed. I know books are always better than the movies.

I think I read the entire trilogy in 2 days! I got hooked fast! I can't wait to watch the movie!!!!
grapefruit / 4671 posts
God yes, I've read the trilogy more times than I can count. So fricking excited about the movie!
persimmon / 1465 posts
I enjoyed the idea of the books but wish they had been better written. I found the main character to be a bit annoying by the end of book 3.
clementine / 994 posts
I really enjoyed the concept of the books, but like @cupcakemama, the main character really frustrated me by the last book. I read the whole series in a matter of days. Then the following week, I read the series three more times because every time I finished the last book, I would want to read the first one again just to make myself less angry at her. Then I'd end up getting hooked and reading the whole series again.

I read them all min 2 12 hour night shifts! It was slow at work, and I couldn't put them down. My co-workers teased me like crazy because I was so checked out for those shifts! I can't wait to see the movie (I kind of want to go see it opening weekend, but I am not sure I want to battle the crowds!)
grapefruit / 4400 posts
I read them! I actually HATE reading, so it was definitely a good story that hooked me in.
I'm going to see the movie for my BFF's birthday Friday night, which I'm not looking forward to at all. Well, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but just not on opening night with a bunch of die-hard fans/tweens/annoying people.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
Yes! I read all three multiple times now. I just read the second one again last night. Can't wait for the movie!!!!
kiwi / 575 posts
I read all three books and I LOVED the entire series! My husband read them as soon as I was finished with each and also enjoyed them.
